Happy National Pollinator Week, from our Nunan Butterfly Garden! Please help us raise awareness for native pollinators by participating in our Pollinators in the Garden Photography Contest (submission deadline is Friday, July 10, 2026). All contest entries will be displayed in our lobby in September, highlighting all the pollinators that are attracted to our diverse, native-based habitat. Curious to learn more? Local author! Mount Dora resident Sheila Scott Hula has published a novel about a fiercely independent woman tough enough to hold her own against Montana blizzards, floods and those who ruled the territory. Her novel draws upon her childhood in Montana as well as the stories she later collected as a newspaper reporter in a tiny town. Sheila is a recently semi-retired journalist and you'll be able to learn more about The Queen of Montana at Sheila's program about her book in August. In the meantime, you can place a hold on The Queen of Montana here: www.mylakelibrary.org.

This aerial photograph was recently acquired in a collection of 94 aerial images, all captured by Rev. David Coffield, while flying in his personal aircraft over Lake County. This image depicts the Mount Dora Plaza on Old U.S. Highway 441 opposite the Golden Triangle Shopping Center, on or near opening day of the Food World in 1978. Food World was a chain owned by Publix Super Markets that offered lower costs to the public. Other stores in the plaza were a Shoecase, Eckerd Drug store, Hallmark cards, a book store and few other shops. This collection will be published in the Archives by the end of this month.

The Mount Dora Archives (www.mountdoraarchives.com) is a joint effort of the Mount Dora Historical Society, The Mount Dora Library Association and the City of Mount Dora. Learn more about Mount Dora’s history at your library and the Mount Dora History Museum.
