Our resident woodland fairies (Miss CC and Miss Morgan) invite preschoolers (ages 3-5 years) and their grown-ups to a very special story time celebrating Scotland, magical forests and unicorns, thanks to the Mount Dora Center for the Arts and The Mount Dora Library Association, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 10:30am. Our program includes a Forest Preserve boardwalk journey, where we might see woodland creatures - and even a unicorn (the national animal of Scotland)! Space is on a first come, first served basis.

Our 12 year old bat house has been replaced, thanks to the Florida Bat Conservancy and The Mount Dora Library Association! Although it was abandoned, at one time a healthy and active bat colony lived here in our Nunan Butterfly Garden, and we hope they return. Florida's bats are all insectivores (eating only insects) and up to 350 bats can inhabit a bat house. It may take up to a year for bats to return to our house. Bats can eat up to their weight in bugs each night, including a wide variety of pests such as wasps and mosquitoes.

Our Archivist had a busy August! 32 new items were added, including 17 items to Downtown By the Decades. This collection showcases the city’s progress through the years as well as the commitment to preserving downtown’s unique charm. Downtown By the Decades highlights several blocks of downtown Mount Dora from the late 1880s through the 1970s. For a more expansive look at the photographs, visit the Downtown collection on mountdoraarchives.com.

Congratulations to Sorrento resident Jennifer T., who won first place in the adults category of our Pollinators in the Garden photography contest! Jennifer, who is a mother of five, calls herself a "wannabe photographer" and has spent many hours in our Nunan Butterfly Garden. She has regularly entered our photography contest over the years and we're thrilled she won first place this year. Come see her entry and all the other stellar photographs, which will be on display in our lobby through the end of September 2025. Our contest was sponsored by The Mount Dora Library Association.

New acquisition, thanks to The Mount Dora Library Association! The Bank of Mount Dora was located along Lake Tem in the Golden Triangle Shopping Center. The shopping center was constructed and stores gradually opened between 1961 to 1962, with additional stores opening throughout the mid-1960s. The Bank of Mount Dora opened in January 1965 in a temporary building until this permanent structure was built later the same year. According to the Mount Dora Topic, the bank was a newly formed business in the area, with Robert Warfield Jr. as president and William V. Proctor Jr. as vice president . The building still exists with minor modifications as another business, at 2799 W. Old US Highway 441.
