Today, August 26th, we tip our hard hats to the lineworkers who keep Mount Dora powered.

Whether they are working through storms, late nights or Florida heat, our crews take on challenging and dangerous work to keep electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout our community.

On Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day, we proudly recognize their skill, sacrifice and commitment to serving Mount Dora. If you see a lineworker today, give them a wave and a well-deserved thank you!

We proudly unveiled the naming of Johnny “Tonk” Copeland Field, honoring a lifelong resident whose impact reached far beyond the game. Thank you to all those who attended including the parks and recreation board members, Mount Dora Pop Warner board members (past and current), City council, the Copeland family, and our amazing community!

For decades, Johnny “Tonk” Copeland created opportunities for local youth to play, grow and feel supported. He founded the East Town Raiders football program and later established the Mount Dora Wildcats, now known as the Mount Dora Hurricanes. He also organized baseball, softball, basketball, football and cheerleading programs, while providing safe gathering spaces for the community.

Mr. Copeland believed every child deserved a chance to participate. He helped provide equipment and transportation, introduced young people to college campuses and encouraged them to see greater possibilities for their futures.

This field now carries the name of a man who gave so much of himself to Mount Dora. Every practice, game and milestone celebrated here will help carry his legacy forward.

Johnny “Tonk” Copeland Field is more than a name on a sign. It is a lasting reminder of what one person can do when they believe in their community and its children.

New traffic directions will include:
• Alexander Street: Southbound from 5th Avenue --> 4th Avenue
• Baker Street: Southbound from 5th Avenue --> 3rd Avenue
