Eastside Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce the newest apparatus to our fleet of trucks. This is a brand new Pierce 2024 2,100 gallon International water tender that has been placed into service today. A BIG SHOUT OUT to the ones who made this possible. First the Texas A&M Forestry Service for approval of the apparatus grant that was submitted. And Rusk County Emergency Services district #1 for the cost share and their continual backing and support to our department. Without them we would still be in the stone ages. And to Siddons Martin Emergency Group for another great build. Eastside VFD is very blessed and grateful to have top notch apparatus and equipment to help keep our community safe.

⏰ Reminder from Eastside VFD: Spring Forward Tonight! 🌷🚒

Daylight Saving Time begins tonight! Before you head to bed, set your clocks forward one hour so you’re ready for the day ahead.

While you're changing your clocks, take a moment to:
✅ Check and test your smoke alarms
✅ Replace batteries if needed
✅ Review your family’s fire escape plan

A working smoke alarm can make all the difference in an emergency.

From all of us at Eastside VFD, stay safe and enjoy the extra daylight! 🌞

03/07/2026

It’s that time of year again. Spring those clocks forward (if they’re not automatic) and replace those batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors!

🚫🔥 Burn Ban in Effect – Rusk County 🔥🚫

The Rusk County Commissioners have approved a county-wide burn ban, effective immediately. The ban may remain in place for up to 90 days.

Eastside VFD wants to make sure our community is aware:

❗ All outdoor burning is prohibited at this time.
This includes burning brush, trash, and any other open outdoor fires not specifically authorized under county guidelines.

These conditions are extremely dry, and the risk of wildfire is high. Even small fires can quickly get out of control and threaten homes, property, and lives.

We appreciate everyone doing their part to keep our community safe. If you have questions about what is allowed during the burn ban, please contact local authorities for clarification.

Please share this post to help spread the word. Stay safe, Eastside! 🚒

The Rusk County Commissioners Court has approved a burn ban, effective immediately. A copy of the signed order will be made available at the conclusion of Commissioners Court.

Come out and show some support for this family! They have done so much for us at New Salem VFD, and all of Rusk County it’s our turn to help them out!

With hearts full of hope and support, we're rallying behind the Griffith’s family as they embark on a challenging medical journey and recovery. Let's come together to make a meaningful difference with a $5 hamburger basket fundraiser, where every purchase brings Wendy closer to healing. Each burger basket sold is a testament to the power of community and kindness, directly supporting Wendy's path to wellness. As we unite in support, let's wear orange to show our solidarity and determination, flooding the Griffiths with encouragement and get-well wishes. Every donation, whether cash or check, brings comfort and reminds them they're not alone in this fight.

WINTER HEATING FIRE SAFETY | According to the National Fire Protection Association, half of home heating fires were caused by having heating equipment too close to things that can burn; such as upholstered furniture, clothing mattresses, or bedding.

Nearly half (48%) of all home heating fires occurred in December, January, and February.

It’s important to be aware of these dangers and take precautions as temperatures drop this weekend. Here are some tips from Henderson Fire Department on how to stay safe while using space heaters:

▪ Keep combustibles at least three feet away from heating equipment. Check all flues and chimneys to make sure they’re clear of obstructions, especially if you use solid-fueled heaters.

▪ If using extension cords with your heating equipment, there should be no more than one cord to a single outlet, and the wire should be heavy enough for the appliance you’re plugging in. An overload can cause overheating and result in a fire.

▪ When purchasing a space heater, make sure it has an automatic shut-off switch in case it gets knocked over.

▪ Never use a gas oven to provide warmth in your home. Doing this could result in carbon monoxide poisoning or even an explosion.

▪ Don’t forget to check your smoke detectors! Make sure your detectors are properly installed, working, and kept free of dust.

▪ Make sure you have working carbon monoxide detectors in your home as well. This is especially important if you rely on fuel-fired appliances such as gas stoves, space heaters, or generators.

The symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning may be mistaken for other illnesses such as the cold or flu, so it’s important to keep an eye out for these symptoms:

-Dull headache
-Weakness
-Dizziness
-Nausea or vomiting
-Shortness of breath
-Confusion
-Blurred vision
-Loss of consciousness

▪ Finally, never leave children unattended near an open flame. This includes fireplaces or wood stoves and candles.

As cold weather approaches, we urge you to follow these simple winter heating fire safety tips.
