The village of Mount Gilead will be celebrating Independence Day on Friday, July 3rd, just as we have in years past.

It is with great thanks to many businesses and community members throughout the county that our fireworks display was substantially funded privately through the village.

While normalcy has been challenged these past few months, our freedom from England remains the same. Today we are just as free as our founding fathers were in 1776 and today we face new challenges just as they faced when they were building our country from the ground up.

In working with the Morrow County Health District, the Morrow County Fair Board, Police Chief, Fire Chief, Sheriff, Great Lakes Fireworks Company, the firework technician, and my fellow council members, we have come up with a day of remembrance for the freedoms granted July 4th, 1776.

The fireworks this year will be set off from the top of the hill behind the main grandstand at the fairgrounds. This new location within the fairgrounds will allow better views throughout the village and surrounding countryside. Due to safety measures, no one will be allowed into the fairgrounds except for first responders in compliance with the setting off of fireworks. Should policy change between now and then, an additional announcement will be made.

At 9:45 PM, the fireworks display will begin. Due to the slight change of location and the closure of the fairgrounds, it is my hope as a community we can work together and find locations throughout our village to observe the fireworks safely. The show was modified to include only high flying shells to create a better aerial display. Most of the downtown main street sidewalks will have a great view. Many parking lots in the village will also have a great view.

While festivals and large gatherings are still discouraged, we will unite together and overcome todays obstacles just as our newly formed country did in 1776. While some traditions are unable to happen this year, many others can form as we overcome and adapt. Please use this time of celebration to safely be with your family, friends, and neighbors as our sky lights up this Independence Day eve 2020.

With love for my fellow neighbors,

Jamie L. Brucker
Mayor of Mount Gilead

A few helpful tips for spring cleanup:

No tires

No paint/chemicals

All metal and appliances will not be picked up by the village. Local scrappers who are not contracted with the village often will stop for those items. Try to separate your pile so both the village crew and the scrappers can easily move from residence to residence efficiently.

The village yard waste facility (behind the fairgrounds) will be temporarily closed this week to process the large pile of yard waste. We apologize for any inconvenience during this interruption of service.

Thank you for your understanding of these conditions and for your commitment to keeping our village beautiful!

MGHS Class of 2020 Processional Route.

This Saturday, June 6th, the Mount Gilead High School class of 2020 will make their way from the Fairgrounds to the High School.

They will leave the fairgrounds at 5:30 PM and follow the red dotted line. This was the approved route keeping in mind safety for the class and our community.

Please join in showing your support!

Outlined are places to park and should you leave your car we ask that you maintain distance between clusters of families to comply with the health department guidance.

Due to the large number of vehicles in this Processional, Park Avenue and Cherry Street will be bumper to bumper on those roads during the schools portion of this ceremony of which they will be broadcasting themselves. ***Community is asked not to gather near the school***

The village is only assisting with the Processional and road closure of Park Avenue in front of the Schools. All other questions will need to be directed to the school.

Let's work together as a community to show our pride and support for the graduating class of 2020!
