After a long day of fighting, the Americans that were left took a defensive position on Iron Works Hill south of the Rancocas Creek. But Griffin knew he didn't have enough men to hold the position, so in the middle of the night the Americans evacuated to Moorestown. The Hessians who had also fought all day enjoyed the benifits of Mount Holly. As Captain Ewald put it: ...since large stores of wine were found there, the entire garrison was drunk by night...

Just imagine for a few minutes that it is December 15, 1776 and not December 15, 2021. Things are really starting to heat up in Burlington County. You have heard the news of the great defeat of General Washington's army and now, here you sit, between the two great armies as Christmas approaches.
