Sheriff Kostoplis and the Burlington County Sheriff's Office had the honor of hosting Dawson Palmarini ("Man on a Mission"), as he became an Honorary Sheriff's Officer for the day!
On July 20, 2019, Dawson survived a devastating motorcycle accident at just 17 years old. After being resuscitated at the scene by a swift team of Police, Fire, and EMS personnel, he was airlifted to the hospital, where he spent three months in trauma care fighting through three traumatic brain injuries. Following an incredible journey of relearning how to walk, talk, and eat, Dawson turned his long recovery into purpose—setting out on a personal mission to visit and thank first responders across New Jersey for the life-saving work they do every day.
His action-packed day started with a meeting alongside Sheriff Kostoplis and Undersheriff Gautam to get an up-close look at our Drone Unit technology. Det. Scott and K-9 Nina, along with Lt. Giannini, stopped by next to give Dawson an exciting, behind-the-scenes look into our specialized K-9 Unit, where he got a firsthand lesson in the incredible skill and teamwork it takes to keep our community safe.
Sgt. Lynch then guided him on an exciting, full-scope tour through the County building. Dawson spent the rest of his visit heading into our various units, meeting the officers and staff members who keep our operations running, and learning all about what they do every day. To cap off an incredible visit, Dawson ended his tour right in the driver's seat of one of our patrol cars!
Dawson's mission to personally visit and thank first responders across New Jersey is a powerful reminder of resilience, gratitude, and community spirit. It was a true privilege to spend the day with him and have him stand alongside our agency.
