August marks Jackson Kolb's third anniversary at FDMH!

For the Kolbs, serving as a first responder is a family affair. Jackson notes, "My dad, grandpa, and uncle were all EMTs in Waunakee. I graduated high school a semester early so I could take the FDMH fire academy, and joined the department after completion. Then my dad decided to join me as a FDMH firefighter." (Our fire rigs were always alluring to the Kolbs - check out the great 2009 father & son photo!)

Outside of the station, Jackson prefers to be with family and friends. He enjoys going to truck and tractor pulls, and working on cars and trucks with his buddies.

Please help us thank Jackson for his time and talents!

August marks Jackson Busch's third anniversary with FDMH!

Jackson is an active firefighter and AEMT around SW Wisconsin. He joined FDMH as a teenage intern and recalls, "The program was highly recommended by many around the area. It was the quickest two years of my life learning and training on topics I didn't know I would come to love. I would recommend the experience to anyone looking to get into the world of Fire & EMS."

This summer, Jackson is out west fighting wildfires. When he's back in these parts, he's also a student and now teaches Fire & EMS classes, too. "Some of my favorite trainings include rope rescue, confined space, swiftwater/ice rescue, and live fire demonstrations." When he's not stretching a line or providing patient care, Jackson loves spending time with his family and friends, hunting and fishing, camping, and traveling.

Please help us thank Jackson for his time and talents!

We're pleased to announce Deputy Chief Thane Westermeyer has graduated from the U.S. Fire Administration's Executive Fire Officer Program. This multi-year, rigorous program prepares candidates for the complex leadership realities of emergency services. Congratulations, D.C. Westermeyer! This week, one patient at the station was a little smaller than usual.

On Monday, Firefighter/EMT Max Brinkmann discovered a hummingbird in rough shape right inside the bay. (We presume the bird was too weak to dial 911.) After rest and fluids, the hummingbird regained alertness and flew off into the neighborhood.

No matter the size of the emergency, we're happy to help. 🚑

This month marks Lt. Ben Kietzke's 10th anniversary with FDMH. Bonus content: today is his birthday!

Ben writes, "My journey with FDMH started long before I became a member. My parents actually met at the old fire station and both served with the department when I was born. Growing up, the station was like a second home. I spent countless hours there learning how things worked and getting to know the people who would eventually become my fellow firefighters.

At 17, I joined through the restart of the student volunteer program alongside my childhood friend, Thad Brinkmann. Since then, FDMH has taught me more lessons than I can count and introduced me to some incredible people. Many of the members I serve with today are people I’ve known my entire life.

From student volunteer to Lieutenant, it’s been an incredible journey. I’m especially grateful to serve alongside my fiancée, father, and sister, continuing a family tradition that has meant so much to me. The opportunity to train, serve our residents, and work alongside such a dedicated group of people is what continues to make FDMH feel like a second family."

Please help us thank Ben for the time and talent he shares with FDMH!
