We are big on letting the animals be free to do what they want but sometimes they make poor life choices. Ah, the joys of parenting…

If you come out for a farm tour in the Spring, Flirtie the broad breasted turkey is kept in a pen. This is why…

I’m posting with a very heavy heart today. On Friday May 1st, Rio (black dog) & Rudy (brown dog) decided to leave our property while chasing a fox. We had trained them not to leave the farm but temptation was too great. At 8:30pm, we heard them both barking & we ran into the fields calling for them. Then we heard a gun shot, Rudy let out a blood curdling scream, then there was silence. Rio ran past us on the way back to the house as I screamed until my voice gave out. In the darkness, we had no way of finding Rudy/his body. So we called all of our neighbors in that area, one went out in the dark to look for us. It was soul crushing. We knew it was a possibility if they left the property but we didn’t expect to hear him get killed.

The next morning (Saturday) we had to get up early & head out for our 50K run. I was frantically texting neighbors & coordinating searches in between legs of our run. No buzzards ever showed up, that means the shooter hid the body. We filed a police report on Sunday.

Let me be clear, I take full responsibility for my dogs leaving the property. I just want to bury my son. If it was a neighbor, we aren’t going to press charges. But if it was a poacher that was trespassing then we will. We are y mad, we just want closure. If you know anything about Rudy getting killed, please let us know. I just want to bury my baby & say goodbye to him.

Please pray for us, especially Rio. They were pair bonded & she is not doing well by herself.

Please pray for us.

Merry crashed out. He was always tiny (the runt) & always weaker/slower so we didn’t think he was super healthy. But I’m a sucker for an underdog.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter how much you love someone. It doesn’t matter how much training you have. It doesn’t matter how much money you can throw at a problem. Sometimes, God just calls someone home & there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. Animals are just like kids, medically speaking. Their bodies will over compensate until there is nothing left in the tank. All that time masking symptoms instead of warning you that something bad is coming. Then it’s too late to save them. The vet confirmed there was nothing more I could do for him.

Part of me is in a lot of pain & part of me is resigned. I’m thankful for the time I had with him. I’m heartbroken that it wasn’t very long. I can only pray that God is using this for a greater purpose.

Boromir the special needs Boer goat is feeling worlds better than when he came to us. The antibiotics have kicked in, his respiratory infection has cleared, & he no longer has Scours (life threatening diarrhea).

He is now loving life, being spoiled, & having fun with his adopted brothers.

Sunday was scary for us & the new baby calf.

Unfortunately, Charlene’s older son decided to kick the new baby off & take mom’s colostrum. We ended up having to tube feed the baby because he wouldn’t take a bottle. We kept him overnight in a stall, then we carefully reintroduced Charlene & her baby. They were both super happy. (Please ignore us scolding naughty baby goats in the background of the video).

We ended up selling Charlene’s older son on Thursday to keep him from stealing milk. So much for freezer beef!

Shortly after bringing Merry & Pippin home, we found a similarly aged Boer goat buckling & I fell in love.

We would like you to meet: Boromir the Boer goat.

Originally, we had hoped that he could be part of our future plans but his first vet visit dashed those hopes. Poor little guy has a severe heart murmur & we were warned that he can drop dead at any time. The vet said he will probably start throwing blood clots when he develops his rumen & that nothing can be done. He is not expected to see his first birthday. So we are giving him all the love & attention we can. Our plan is to spoil him rotten & be thankful for each day we have with him.

We encourage you to come meet this soft, loving, sweet, little goat while you have the chance.

After much debate, we finally added goats to the farm!!!

We had been borrowing some from our wonderful neighbors for tours & they made us a great deal, so we jumped on it.

We would like you to meet Merry & Pippin. They are Nigeria Dwarf goats. Currently they are bucklings, meaning that they still have their balls. But once they are a bit older, they will become weathers (castrated).

Their favorite hobbies are eating, sitting in your lap, being pet, & causing trouble. We love them & know you will too! Come out & meet them!!
