In Memory & Respect of Ms. Dolly Parton

In accordance with an official order from Governor Abigail Spanberger, the United States and Commonwealth of Virginia flags at all Town of Mount Jackson facilities have been lowered to half-staff to honor the memory and legacy of Dolly Parton.

Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean (January 19, 1946 – August 25, 2026) was an American singer-songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. Dubbed the "Queen of Country", Parton was one of the most honored country performers, earning eleven Grammy Awards and three Emmy Awards, as well as nominations for two Academy Awards, six Golden Globes and a Tony Award. She was also known for her cultural influence and philanthropy via Dollywood and the Dollywood Foundation. With more than 100 million records sold, Parton is among the best-selling music artists of all time.

We join communities across the Commonwealth in honoring her incredible contributions to music, culture, and literacy. Through her Imagination Library, her legacy of fostering a love of reading continues to touch the lives of children and families right here in our community and across Virginia.

Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING TOWN OF MOUNT JACKSON

The Town Council of the Town of Mount Jackson will hold a PUBLIC HEARING on September 8, 2026 at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers at the Town Hall, 5901 Main Street, Mount Jackson, to receive public comments on the following:

1. Consideration of a request to extend the special use permit by OFW Solar Farm, LLC until 2031 for a utility-scale solar facility on approx. 450 acres and consideration of the siting agreement.

2. Ordinance O-02-2026: Municipal Tree Ordinance. An ordinance establishing a Tree Advisory Board and regulating the planning, maintenance, and protection of public trees within the Town of Mount Jackson, VA.

These items are eligible for action by the Town Council that same evening following the public hearing. Information regarding these items can be found at https://www.mountjackson.com/town-council/page/public-hearing-notices-information, or at the Town Office during normal business hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:45 PM.

UPDATE. Hooray! The pool is open!

WE’RE WATCHING THE WEATHER! ☔️

The Mount Jackson Pool will have a delayed opening today as we keep an eye on the weather. We’re hopeful Mother Nature will cooperate and we can open later today, if conditions allow. 🤞

Happy 100th Birthday, Allen Clayton Will! 🎉

Today, August 14, 2026, the Town of Mount Jackson officially proclaims "Allen Clayton Will Day" in honor of a true local hero, devoted family man, and World War II veteran reaching a monumental milestone!

Pictured here from earlier this week at the Town Council meeting, Mayor Donnie Pifer proudly presented Mr. Will with a copy of the official proclamation, surrounded by members of his loving family and Town Council members.

Born in Shenandoah County on August 14, 1926, Clayton married the love of his life, Marie Lucille Lindamood, on November 11, 1944. Together, they built a wonderful family rooted in love, raising three children: Peggy Neff, Pat Will Myers, and son Gary Will.

Just three days after his wedding, Clayton entered active-duty service in the U.S. Army. As part of the heroic 335th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division ("Rail Splitters Division"), he braved the brutal Battle of the Bulge, perilous crossings of the Roer and Rhine Rivers, the capture of Hanover, and the historic link-up with the Soviet Red Army at the Elbe River.

In April 1945, his division undertook the somber duty of uncovering and liberating the Hannover-Ahlem and Salzwedel satellite camps of the Neuengamme concentration camp.

Putting his reliable driving skills to work, Clayton served as a driver for officers and 2-Star Generals—cruising in a 1942 Chevrolet—before making a memorable stop in Switzerland on his journey home.

The Town Council of Mount Jackson extends its most sincere and grateful appreciation to Mr. Will for his extraordinary service, his monumental sacrifices, and his lifelong dedication to his country and community.

Town Hall was positively bursting at the seams last week, and we couldn't have loved it more!

We were thrilled to open the doors and host the massive local Rotary Club book sale during the Route 11 Yard Crawl. Led by Bill Grass, an incredible crew of volunteers worked tirelessly to move over 20,000 books! Because of their dedication—and everyone in our community who stopped by to donate or scoop up a stack to read—over $4,000 is heading straight back out to support the county's school literacy LEAP program.

A massive round of applause to the Mt. Jackson-Edinburg Rotary Club, New Market, Woodstock, and Strasburg Rotary clubs for showing us once again what community is all about. Great work, everyone!

Huge shout out to the local Rotary Clubs in Shenandoah County: Mt. Jackson-Edinburg Rotary Club , Rotary Club of New Market Virginia , The Rotary Club of Woodstock VA , Strasburg Rotary. The dedication of the amazing volunteers, spearheaded by Bill Grass, was able to sell over 20,000 books during last week's annual Route 11 Yard Crawl. The $4,000+ proceeds of the book sale will go right back in the local community as new books will be purchased to support the county's school literacy LEAP program. It takes a village and these Rotarians are leading by example. Thanks to all of the volunteers that helped to make this a successful event.

It’s , and while we couldn't get everyone here today, we couldn't let the 11th annual international ELGL celebration go by without showing off a few of the hardworking faces behind the scenes.

We managed to wrangle just a few folks from the front desk, the office, and Public Works for a quick snap before everybody scattered right back to work.

Whether we’re helping you out at the counter or out keeping the streets running smoothly, serving this town is our absolute favorite thing to do.
