My wife Illyria and I enjoyed the warm smiles and welcome at the Westchester/Putnam Central Labor Body AFL-CIO’s Annual Family Day yesterday at Ridge Road Park in Hartsdale.

It was a joyful occasion for people of all ages, and the food was delicious (thank you!). It was great to catch up with so many of my friends and partners in Labor who work tirelessly to provide for a better life not only for their members, but for all New Yorkers.

As a former Town Supervisor, it was a pleasure to meet on Wednesday with Christopher A. Koetzle, Executive Director of the New York Association of Towns - NYAOT. As its name implies, NYAOT represents town governments and town officials, providing technical assistance and advice, and representing their concerns in Albany.

Sensitive to the impact statutory requirements may have on localities, I always view proposed legislation affecting towns through the lens of implementation costs and other potential impacts.

The New York Blood Center has declared an unprecedented second blood emergency this summer, reporting that the regional blood supply had fallen to its lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last Friday, I had the rare privilege and honor to tour the special exhibit at the Neuberger Museum of Art at SUNY Purchase.

I’ll start with the museum, which is very special. Westchester has a truly first-rate modern and contemporary art museum tucked into a public college campus. Founded in 1969 around philanthropist Roy R. Neuberger's gift of 300 works, the collection numbers roughly 7,000 works, including Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, Jackson Po***ck, and Willem de Kooning.

But we were there for the blockbuster exhibit “The Declaration Distributed: Westchester County's Holt Broadside of 1776.” The centerpiece is an extraordinarily rare original broadside of the Declaration of Independence, printed in New York in July 1776. New York did not formally adopt the Declaration until July 9, five days after July 4. The state then engaged printer John Holt to print and disseminate New York's adoption of the Declaration.

Get over to the Neuberger if you can. The exhibit will be there through December 20, 2026. There is no admission fee. Tell them I sent you!

It was a delight to attend Saturday’s annual summer picnic of 32BJ SEIU.

32BJ SEIU is the nation’s largest property-service workers union, representing tens of thousands of doormen, porters, cleaners, maintenance workers, security officers, and other building-service employees in New York City and Westchester County. They provide vital services to all of us, and I support their work.

It was a great party - well-attended, the food was delicious and most importantly the fellowship was first rate!

Yesterday, I joined Senator Pete Harckham at a press conference calling upon the Governor to sign the “Traveling with Dignity Act,” which was passed by the New York State Legislature. We were joined by several disability rights advocates, including Penny-Lynn Pagliaro, Executive Director of CP Unlimited, and two CP clients, Betty Williams and Diego Ortiz.

If enacted, New York would have one of the most comprehensive accessibility initiatives in the nation, requiring adult changing accommodations in large public venues and state-owned buildings open to the public. These facilities may be invisible to those who do not need them, but for those who do, they are essential to ensuring dignity and access to places such as the State Capitol, a Yankees game, or a Mets game.

We are hopeful that the Governor will act favorably and sign this important bill into law.

Kensico Dam Park was buzzing with excitement and energy at the 50th Annual Westchester Jewish Music & Arts Festival! It was a terrific day of music, art, culture and community, and my wife and I were delighted to have a chance to come by and enjoy it. I was delighted to be a “Read-a-Louds” guest reader on Friday, which was the last day of the Freedom School, the YWCA White Plains and Central Westchester's summer enrichment program. The Freedom School strengthens academic, civic, and socio-emotional skills in a fun, creative way for children from White Plains and across Westchester County. This wonderful program has had remarkable success in raising reading levels among its participants. Given my work to support people with varying physical and neurological abilities, I was pleased to be asked to read Just Ask! Be Different, Be Brave, Be You by US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The children were attentive and active listeners!

I was also pleased to meet with CEO Tiffany Hamilton, under whose impressive leadership this program has flourished.
