Building stronger, more inclusive communities starts with understanding.

On May 19 and 26, Durand was proud to partner with the Mt. Laurel Police Department to provide specialized training on interacting with individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. Durand COO Jim Myers and School Principal Jennifer Amoroso led the sessions for command staff and officers, focusing on recognizing signs of autism, effective communication strategies, understanding potential triggers, and creating positive, less stressful interactions for everyone involved.

The training also highlighted valuable resources already available to officers, including Blue Envelope programs, sensory support kits containing noise-reducing earmuffs, fidget tools, communication aids, and other accommodations designed to support successful encounters.

We are grateful to the Mt. Laurel Police Department for their commitment to learning, collaboration, and serving all members of our community with compassion and understanding. Together, we are helping create safer, more supportive environments for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities throughout South Jersey.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness have protected the freedoms we cherish each day.

At Durand, we are grateful for the heroes who gave so much for our communities and our nation. As we spend time with family and friends this holiday, may we also reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember those who are no longer with us.

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words… but after Durand’s Night of Stars – Heroes Gala, these photos are worth more than $50,000.

We are beyond grateful to everyone who showed up, supported, donated, sponsored, volunteered, and participated in such an unforgettable evening benefitting the Durand Foundation. Together, we celebrated local community heroes, highlighted the extraordinary kindness and service happening throughout our community, and honored the incredible Jim Adair with our Lifetime Service Award for his decades of dedication and impact.

May is a vibrant month filled with meaningful cultural celebrations and moments of reflection from around the world. 🌎✨
This month, we recognize and honor traditions such as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, celebrating the rich histories and contributions of AAPI communities, and Jewish American Heritage Month, highlighting the enduring impact of Jewish Americans on culture and society.

We also observe Cinco de Mayo, a celebration of Mexican heritage and resilience, and later in the month, Memorial Day offers a time to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.

At Durand, learning doesn’t stop at graduation—it evolves.
Our Adult Training Services program, with three locations across the tri-county area, provides individuals with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities a structured, supportive environment where growth continues every day.

Through engaging activities, skill-building opportunities, and meaningful social connections, participants strengthen life skills, build personal autonomy, and gain the confidence to navigate their world with greater independence. Most importantly, it’s a place where individuals feel valued, connected, and empowered—leading to a greater sense of happiness and fulfillment.

Because everyone deserves the opportunity to keep learning, keep growing, and live a life filled with purpose. 💙
