Livingston County EMS Celebrates Paramedic Program Graduate

Livingston County EMS is proud to announce that Rebekah Schrier has graduated from the Monroe Community College Paramedic Program. The ceremony was held today at the Public Safety Training Facility - PSTF

Rebekah joined LCEMS in April 2018, and in the seven years since, she has built an extraordinary career in emergency medicine. She became a Registered Nurse at Alfred, worked in both the Emergency Department and ICU, joined Air Methods, earned her Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) credential, and most recently completed the MCC Paramedic Program.

Today, Rebekah serves full-time as a flight nurse with LifeNet 7-7 Hornell, works part-time as an EMT with LCEMS, and volunteers with Dansville EMS, where she also mentors juniors in their program.

Her completion of the paramedic program is yet another example of her dedication to lifelong learning and advancing the profession of paramedicine.

We are incredibly proud to see Rebekah’s journey come full circle—from a new EMT to the accomplished professional she is today.

Congratulations, Rebekah Schrier! We look forward to your continued success.

Community Spotlight: Cherie Gibson, RN – A Pillar of Care at Noyes Health

Livingston County EMS – We Care. For Everyone.

While not a member of Livingston County EMS, Cherie Gibson is an integral part of our community and a trusted partner in emergency care. Cherie has dedicated 25 years as an exceptional nurse in the Emergency Department at Noyes Health, wearing many hats including ED staff nurse, vascular access/PICC specialist, AHA instructor, nurse educator, and most recently, stroke coordinator.

Cherie is the familiar, compassionate face our EMS providers see on patient arrivals — a calming and competent presence that reassures everyone. As Stroke Coordinator, she has actively collaborated with EMS, attending training sessions and helping improve prehospital stroke care.

One unforgettable moment happened on October 30, 2024, when Cherie was at a local bowling alley and witnessed a 74-year-old man collapse in cardiopulmonary arrest. Without hesitation, she initiated expert CPR, performing effective compressions for five minutes until EMS arrived. Thanks to her quick action and dedication, the patient made a full recovery. Before we knew of her role in the save, Cherie humbly approached us to recognize EMS for the lifesaving efforts—making zero mention of the part she played. This speaks volumes about her character. She then worked with the bowling alley to install an AED, helping protect the community’s future.

Cherie is not only clinically excellent and professional but also a mentor and educator, supporting both EMS and nursing students alike. She is deeply respected and admired by all who know her.

We thank Cherie Gibson for her selfless service and unwavering commitment to saving lives in Livingston County.

🚑 EMS Week Spotlight: Paramedic Rookie of the Year – Sarah Bracy 🚑
Livingston County EMS – We Care. For Everyone.

Livingston County EMS has had the pleasure of serving as Paramedic Sarah Bracy’s home base throughout her rookie year in 2024. Although Sarah had already built an impressive foundation as an EMT with Geneseo NY Fire Department and LCEMS, we were thrilled to welcome her back as a paramedic after graduating salutatorian from Monroe Community College’s Paramedic Program Public Safety Training Facility - PSTF

Sarah first came to us as a SUNY Geneseo student and chose to stay in the area to pursue her EMS career. She has consistently demonstrated outstanding knowledge, above-average skills, and sound medical decision-making. During her clearance process, she expertly handled rapid-fire verbal scenarios covering respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, acute stroke, and major trauma—correctly prioritizing care every time.

What sets Sarah apart is her relentless curiosity and eagerness for feedback. She regularly seeks input from colleagues, supervisors, and medical leadership to refine her skills and improve patient care. Walking the halls of LCEMS, you’ll often find Sarah asking about patient outcomes, reviewing EKGs, and discussing her cases with genuine dedication.

But it’s her compassion that leaves the strongest impression. Her patients consistently praise her for listening carefully and addressing their fears with kindness and concern. One poignant example is a June 29, 2024, call where Sarah responded to a su***de attempt by intentional overdose. She quickly recognized the severity, reassured the patient’s husband, and initiated life-saving care, coordinating advanced interventions en route to the hospital. The patient survived and later sought Sarah out to personally thank her with a heartfelt card and tokens of appreciation.

On behalf of the patient and the entire Livingston County EMS community, we proudly nominate Paramedic Sarah Bracy as Monroe-Livingston Regional Paramedic Rookie of the Year!
