Last night for drill members worked on lowering and raising systems. These types of rope systems can be used to bring patients up from over a hill sides or up from a man hole. We are an all hazards department so we need to train on more than just fires. If you have ever thought about helping your community we are always looking for volunteers.

It was a busy weekend for the Mt Oliver Fire Department. We had several members participate in a 24 hour training Saturday into Sunday. Where they ran multiple trainings including structure fire response, vehicle fire response and vehicle accidents. This was in addition to the multiple EMS calls we handled on Saturday. Then on Sunday evening we responded on the 1st alarm for a mutual aid structure fire into Whitehall Fire Company, Station 301 district. Followed a few hours later by a 2nd alarm response into Homestead for multiple structures on fire. To say some of the guys were dragging is an understatement. Have you ever thought about giving back to your community and being part of an amazing team? We are always on the look out for new members. You can stop by the station M-F from 8 to 5 and pick up an application.

This afternoon Station 199 along with Pittsburgh EMS Rescue 2 and one of our future members Shane responded to a reported cat stuck in a wall. Upon arrival crews discovered a litter of kittens were actually trapped in the wall. Crews worked for approximately 60 minutes to open up the wall and remove the kittens. All kittens were safely removed and transported to Fisher's Furry Friends rescue where they are being cared for. Anyone interested in adopting one of the kittens or making a donation to help with their care should contact the rescue directly.
