RCS Academic Team had a great day of competition at Regional Governor’s Cup hosted by Fleming County. It was great to see a lot of our Limestone family and catch up. A special thanks to Kristy Allison, without her help and serving as a composition reader, moderator and official, all season long, we literally would not be able to compete! Also, thank you to Academic Alum Dylan Maddox and Rachel Unthank for serving as officials and buzzer operators for our Governor’s Cup competitions.
After individual testing our team faced Lewis County in a close and fun match but we fell behind in points in the last few minutes earning our first loss. We had a bye for the second round due to another team unfortunately having to forfeit due to not having enough players present. That break gave us plenty of time to go to Giovanni’s and enjoy a delicious buffet! (You know we had to eat! šŸ˜‚) After lunch we faced Harrison County. The match was close the first half but Harrison eventually pulled away giving us our second loss and ending our Quick Recall season.
Our team has had a great year. They represented themselves, their school and community well! Academic season is a long one, we start in September and our season ends with State competition in March. The endurance of these students to keep studying, practicing and competing is something to be commended.
Tonight I’d especially like to congratulate our Senior Lexi England! She has been an outstanding member of our team for 9 years and she will definitely be missed. But, Lexi’s season isn’t over, she has advanced to state in 2 individual testing categories AND Written Composition (with a 1st place finish out of 17 competitors) šŸ™ŒšŸ¼
I’m just a super proud Coach tonight! Way to go RCS! Be proud of all that you’ve accomplished this year. You continue to show that we’re a little school but we have BIG HEART!ā™„ļø

Don’t forget to wear your team shirt! I’m hoping to drive to Giovanni’s and eat their lunch buffet for a quick and filling meal. Quick recall matches should begin around 10:30-10:45. Parents, I have your child update you about when we should arrive back to RCS. I’m so proud of you all, and how well you’ve done this year. Academic team seasons are long, you’ve stuck with and have been successful! Get some rest tonight! (After you enjoy the Homecoming dance of course!) ā¤ļø

ā™„ļø District Governor’s Cup is scheduled for Saturday at Bracken County High School. The van will leave RCS at 7am. (If we delay due to weather that call will be made by 5:30am and I will message students and parents via Parent Square. I will send out a test message this evening. If you are a team member or parent of a team member and do not receive it, please contact me!!) Registration is at 7:45am with testing beginning at 8:15am.
Quick recall tournament will begin immediately after the testing window, so plan for 10:30am arrival for any parents/guests that want to attend.
If plans are changed I will post here as well. We do have an option to compete in quick recall first at 8am, and potentially reschedule testing if we think we won’t be able to get both contests in before conditions worsen. This decision has to be made closer to time and be an agreed upon by all coaches and school superintendents. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. ā¤ļø

Limestone League Awards Banquet was held at Blue Licks State Park on Friday. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal and opportunity to visit before the awards. Congratulations to all of the students that represented their teams, schools and our league so well. Congratulations to Lexi England for placing 4th in Science, 5th in Language Arts, 2nd in Written Composition and being chosen as a member of the Varsity All League team. Congratulations to Avery England for being chosen as a member of the Junior Varsity All League team.
I was shocked, humbled and honored to be nominated and awarded the Kent Grannis Memorial Coach of the Year Award. Kent was a great friend, supporter, encourager and mentor to both myself and our little team. I have enjoyed my time with RCS Academic team, getting to know the students, fostering their love for knowledge and encouraging them to take pride in their academic accomplishments. It was simply a great day. ā¤ļø
