Educational Post
Hi All,
I'm sitting here at 1 am thinking so far about the calls for service we have received tonight and, I believe in education over citations so here is my educational post ;)
The last few weeks we have seen an abnormal amount of calls involving our teenagers in our community. These calls range from what appear to be kids having fun to outright targeting elderly individuals in our community.
We received over 10 calls for doorbell ditching just tonight along with toilet papering, ATV's, motorcycles, and golf carts being driven on the roadways at night with no headlights or safety equipment.
These calls took up all of our resources handling them from call to call.
Now for example one elderly couple over the course of the summer has been doorbell ditched at least 6-7 times and twice tonight. We made contact with some of the Teenagers doing this in the past and talked to them about stopping but it has continued unfortunately. It has caused this couple so much destress that they have purchased cameras and caught the Teens doing it on camera on Multiple occasions. We now have to launch an investigation and issue citations on this incident because it wont stop.
Another call was a lady got doorbell ditched 3 times in a 2 hour period. Her trash was moved in front of her door and s*x items were placed on her door k***s.
Now both of these incidents are not occurring at afternoon hours or even a reasonable hour. They are occurring at 11 pm - 1 am or even later in other incidents.
While some of these might not seem like too big of a deal they seem to be getting out of hand. That's why I'm asking our citizens and parents to talk to your kids about these type of activities and hopefully we can educate them to respect others property.
Now Im not saying that door bell ditching a friend or toilet papering a friend or family member can be such a bad thing if the others parties are playing along, but its the one that don't want those things to happen is where the problem lies.
Now for the game fugitive. I am exited about playing this game tomorrow with the community at the high school in Mount Pleasant and I believe it will be a great party and time. But if your teenager decides to go play it with a group one of these nights please inform them to respect others property so they dont run and hide under vehicles, across peoples back yards or knock on peoples doors at late hours trying to hide in someone's house. (it has happened).
Also please educate your Teenagers about the curfew ordinances in each of our cities, Most of these incidents have occurred after the curfew hours.
I know its the last week of summer break and kids are heading back to School so that is probably why the increase in calls. But I think we can do a lot as parents and citizens to help these things from not causing our neighbors stress or alarm.
Thank you again for all your support
