Help Wanted...Mount Pleasant Traffic Sign Update!

Is there a street sign, 🛑sign, or other traffic sign 🚸missing in your neighborhood? Is there a 4-way stop that's now a 3-way stop? Along your commute is there a traffic sign that used to be there but is missing? Maybe it was run over and never reported? Let us know and we will send someone to check it out. We want our streets identifiable and our roads safe. Help us out and comment the location and type of sign🚦that is missing (hopefully we don't have a lot!).

We are still seeing raccoons in the city that are acting abnormal and out during uncommon hours. One person described them as moving like a "zombie." Distemper is a disease that can be passed to other animals. If you see a raccoon that is acting strange, please call Dispatch ASAP at 903-575-4000.

‼️THIS IS A TEST‼️

On Thursday April 2nd, between 10 am and 12:30 pm, the Texas Division of Emergency Management will be testing all Public Warning Systems statewide. This includes wireless devices and landlines. These tests are imperative to ensure systems are working properly if a true emergency were to arise.

Do not panic! This is only a TEST.

Today, MPPD Telecommunicator Kiana Stewart was presented with the Public Safety Telecommunicator of the Year Award for our region. Out of 155 Dispatchers in our region, Kiana was nominated and chosen for this award. Senior Dispatchers Eric Hall and Arturo Ramirez praised Kiana for her actions during the tragic April 10th Cici’s accident. Kiana displayed amazing courage and nerves of steel during such a chaotic event. Kiana is noted by her peers as being one of the kindest and most positive members of MPPD. We are proud to have her!

**Rumor Control**
You may have heard of a possible attempted abduction near the Walmart parking lot this past weekend. Let us be clear, we are here to protect our community. MPPD officers arrived and spoke with the party of juveniles involved at a nearby restaurant. They gave information to officers of a person looking at them while in the Walmart parking lot but, no attempt to physically confront or contact anyone, and no words were exchanged. The suspect's location unknown at that time.

When officers went to get video surveillance from Walmart, the store had already closed. A second call was made of suspicious people in a different vehicle description at the restaurant, believed to be related to the prior incident. Officers responded to the restaurant and found the vehicle described by the second caller - which was occupied by people waiting in the marked parking stall for their online food orders.

The next morning, when Walmart opened, Officers were able to view Walmart surveillance footage. Video surveillance shows a very different story then what has been posted on social media. Video shows the juvenile party arrive. The video does not show a suspect with the description given near the reporting party, make any contact, or attempt contact. A vehicle matching the description given is seen, but parking in a stall next to another vehicle is not a suspicious act which is all the vehicle is seen doing. The driver of that vehicle doesn't even resemble the original suspect description given. The driver was never near the reporting party...outside or inside of the store.
