WEATHER ALERT: SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY

The National Weather Service and local meteorologists are closely monitoring the potential for multiple rounds of severe weather across Southeast Wisconsin on Wednesday and Thursday. Current forecasts indicate that strong to severe thunderstorms may develop on both days, bringing the potential for tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall with localized flooding.

Now is the time to prepare:
-Review your family’s emergency plan
-Ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially overnight
-Charge mobile devices and keep flashlights readily available
-Secure outdoor furniture and loose items that could become airborne in strong winds

The South Shore Fire Department will be monitoring conditions closely and stands ready to respond if needed. We encourage all residents to stay weather-aware and follow trusted weather sources for the latest updates.

We are proud to announce the appointment of Anthony Soler as Assistant Chief. Assistant Chief Soler come to us after serving the Waukegan Fire Department and we look forward to his impact and leadership in his new role.

We would also like to recognize the promotions of Jonathan Shirk and Joseph Krefft to Battalion Chief. Their professionalism, experience, and commitment to the fire service have prepared them well for these leadership positions.

Additionally, congratulations to James Lynch, James Beaubien, and Gage Mott on their promotions to Lieutenant. Each has consistently demonstrated the skills, work ethic, and dedication necessary to lead and mentor our firefighters while serving the residents and visitors of Mt. Pleasant and Sturtevant.

These promotions reflect countless hours of training, sacrifice, and commitment to excellence. We are fortunate to have such outstanding leaders within our department, and we wish each of them continued success in their new roles.

Congratulations to the graduates of Class 4 of the Racine County Fire Academy!

Over the past six weeks, these recruits have dedicated countless hours to developing the knowledge, skills, and discipline required to serve their communities as firefighters and EMS providers. Their training has been comprehensive, covering all aspects of the fire service, including fire suppression, rescue operations, vehicle extrication, emergency medical care, physical fitness, teamwork, and leadership.

We are especially proud to recognize our three South Shore Fire Department recruits- FF Behrens, FF Perugini, and FF Wallace on reaching this important milestone. Their hard work, commitment, and determination throughout the academy have prepared them to begin their careers in service to our community.

The graduation ceremony was made even more memorable by keynote speaker retired FDNY Lieutenant Ray McCormack. Lt. McCormack served 39 years with the New York City Fire Department and is widely respected throughout the fire service for his passion for firefighter education. Through the classes he teaches across the country, his contributions to Fire Engineering and other trade magazines, and his dedication to sharing lessons learned from a lifetime in the fire service, he continues to make a lasting impact on firefighters nationwide.

Please join us in congratulating all of the graduates of Class 4 and wishing them safe and successful careers. We are excited to see what the future holds for FF Behrens, FF Perugini, and FF Wallace as they begin serving the communities of Mt. Pleasant and Sturtevant!

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

At the South Shore Fire Department, we are especially grateful for those who answered the call to serve both in their communities and in our nation’s armed forces. Their legacy of sacrifice continues to inspire us every day.

As you spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of the day and remember those who gave everything for our freedom.

From all of us at the South Shore Fire Department, we thank and honor our fallen heroes. 🇺🇸

This week, we proudly celebrate EMS Week and recognize the dedicated members of the South Shore Fire Department who answer the call day and night to serve our community. Every one of our firefighters is cross trained as either a paramedic or EMT, ensuring that advanced medical care is always part of the service we provide.

In 2025 alone, 4,986 of our 6,378 total calls for service were EMS related- a reminder that emergency medical care makes up the majority of what we do every single day. From serious medical emergencies to helping someone on their worst day, our crews are committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care when it matters most.

What many people may not realize is that all of our fire engines are also ALS (Advanced Life Support) equipped and staffed with paramedics. This means our firefighters can begin providing paramedic-level care immediately upon arrival in the event they make the scene before an ambulance. Those first few minutes can make all the difference in a medical emergency.

Please join us in thanking all EMS professionals for their commitment, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to the communities they serve.
