We are proud to announce that the Norvelt Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant of $39,157.14 to replace fire hose and purchase new nozzles.

This funding will help ensure our firefighters have reliable, modern equipment to safely and effectively respond to fires and emergencies in our community.

We are grateful for this investment in our department and, most importantly, in the safety of the residents we serve. Our volunteers work hard to protect and support our community, and having the proper equipment is essential to that mission.

Thank you to FEMA and everyone who supports the Norvelt Volunteer Fire Department. We are proud to continue serving our community! 🚒

Last night our team went through various pumping scenarios that we may encounter responding to a call. Some of the scenarios included pulling an initial attack line and transitioning from tank water to a pressurized water source, a transitional attack with tank water, and relay pumping. While pump operators were refining their skills, other members trained on different hose line advancement techniques. While we were training we experienced an issue with the municipal water system and got an added bonus of working through a water system failure.

Members spent the past few days refreshing old skills and learning new ones by taking a basic rigging for rope rescue class at our station.

The class was focused on creating different anchors, lowering and hauling systems, compound mechanical advantage systems to remove victims from low angle situations as well as communicating and teamwork.

We were able to move through various rescue scenarios utilizing our Rescue, Engine Rescue and UTV and the equipment carried on them.

This training will allow us to provide additional technical rescue resources to not only our Norvelt community but also the surrounding area. We continue to strive to move forward and provide the best possible protection for the community.

If you’re interested in joining our team please send us a message or stop by the station.
