Isabella County Parks celebrated 25 years of the Pere Marquette Rail Trail in Isabella County with a ribbon cutting and rededication celebration on Thursday, June 11 at the Loomis Trailhead!

Attendees enjoyed a sneak peek at the signage for the new PMRT History Trail, to be installed later this summer; enjoyed free hotdogs, chips, water, and ice cream courtesy of the Patty Wagon and I Scream Ice Cream Truck; painted their handprints near the 25-year logo on the trail; and took home a commemorative anniversary sticker!

Thank you to all who made this event possible, and to all who came out to celebrate with us!

We want our community members to enjoy the benefits of Michigan DNR’s Free Fishing Weekend, so we’re waiving day use fees for the weekend! FREE entrance to Isabella County Parks this Saturday, June 13th and Sunday, June 14th.

🎣 Fish for all in-season species, all weekend long, without a fishing license.🎣

Deerfield Nature Park, Meridian Park, Herrick Recreation Area, Majeske Landing and Coldwater Lake Family Park all offer fishing opportunities. Visit www.isabellacounty.org/parks to find directions and more information on these parks.

Calling all hammock and camping enthusiasts!

A recently completed Eagle Scout project included the construction and installation of 18 permanent in-ground hammock posts at 9 campsites in Herrick Recreation Area campground -- Sites 34-42.

Jack Johnson, age 15 of Clare, MI, and member of Clare VFW Post 5738 Troop 620, chose to install these hammock posts as his service project to earn his Eagle rank. With a goal of increasing amenities offered at the park, Jack also hopes the hammock posts will help promote camping and outdoor activities.
