ANNOUNCEMENT
Applications are being taken for Kiwanis Scholarships

THE KIWANIS CLUB OF MOUNT PROSPECT will award two scholarships of $1000 each to offset the costs involved with advanced education, whether academic or vocational in nature.

One of the missions of the Kiwanis organization is to help young people. To that end, our scholarships are targeted toward deserving Mount Prospect residents who are pursuing vocational training or higher education with a focus on improving the lives of youth.

APPLICATION: Interested candidates may obtain scholarship applications from their high school counselors, or directly from the Kiwanis Scholarship Committee at the web site: www.kiwanisclubmountprospect.org.

DEADLINE: June 7, 2013

ELIGIBILITY: A candidate must be:
▸ a resident of Mount Prospect;
▸ a student in good standing, maintaining a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 5.0 point scale;
▸ planning to major in or train in a field related to improving the lives of young people (fields such as education, special education, day care, pediatric medicine, child counseling).

INTERVIEW: If finalists cannot be determined from the applications, the Scholarship Committee will request personal interviews with the semi-finalists.

The Kiwanis Club of Mount Prospect in making these awards will not discriminate against any candidate or applicant because of race, religion, gender, national origin or ancestry. Previous recipients of the award may apply. The Kiwanis Club of Mount Prospect reserves the right to withhold the award in any given year or to grant the entire amount to one recipient.

The Kiwanis Scholarship Committee will review all of the applications and notify both the winners and non-winners by mail. If schedules permit the Kiwanis Club would like to invite students and their parents to Monday Lunchtime meetings and present the checks in person. The checks will be written to both the student and college of his or her choice. The money may be used for books, fees or tuition.

The signing of this application by the applicant and his/her parents acknowledges that the decision of the scholarship committee is final; and that it is the intent of the student to pursue and complete a college or vocational education.
