Today was K9 Artie's first day back at training! Some light patrol work and narcotics training to ease him back into the swing of things. He's picked things up easily and will be back in service this next week!

Artie, by all appearances, has made a full recovery and tacked on significant weight compared to where he was at! He's SUPER glad to be back out working and burning off some of that mental and physical energy!

Final Artie health update: Apologies for the delay in updates, but really we were just giving him some time for stitches to heal and follow-up to be done.

K9 Artie had his last vet visit in relation to the surgery today. He has fully recovered and as of today has the stitches removed. Per vet orders, Artie, so long as his recovery continues as it has, will be able to resume work in the next couple weeks!

Artie is very happy with the idea of returning to work and most of all, not wearing a cone anymore.

Thank you all for your support! I will be closing down the fundraiser and can happily say we met our goal to totally cover the expenses of Arties treatment! K9 Artie looks forward to licking, *erm*, seeing, some of your kind faces as he transitions back into his work schedule!

Day 6 Update: Artie has been released from Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center and is back home resting!

He's shown no issues adjusting back and it appears he can finally start his at home recovery. He'll be on quite the medication schedule for the next week or two until stitches come out. In the meantime, he just needs to survive the cone (he's not enjoying so much) and a cooked chicken diet (he's enjoying very much). Once we've cleared those hurdles, the final focus will be getting some meat back on his bones and seeing how all of this will have impacted his future.

Thank you to everyone who has shared words of support and/or donated to our program! I'm still working on getting all the gofundme and private donations added up, but it is already apparent we've raised all the funding for Arties vet bills, plus a bit extra to hopefully be put towards getting K9 Rocco a prophylactic gastroplexy surgery so he does not need to risk going through the same scenario as Artie.

Here's a few pics of K9 Artie from today and I also want to give one more huge thank you to the staff at SOVSC for saving Arties life! Not only that, but they've heavily discounted our vet bills which has greatly aided in our ability to cover everything. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!

Day 5 Update: K9 Artie is still healing up in Veterinary care. He's been struggling over the last couple days with having a drainage tube removed to keep his lungs clear and also with taking oral medications.

Fortunately he's been a trooper and fighting through this. The current plan is to remove his tube and IV medications to try oral medications only overnight. If he is able to handle that, the vet is considering releasing him tomorrow! Pray for the best so that Artie can continue rest and recovery at home with family!

The staff at SOVSC has been great in providing updates, answering questions, and sending photos of Artie. Attached are a few recent ones!

Day 3 Update: Artie's healing and recovery from surgery is still ongoing and it doesn't appear to be any complications from the surgery itself. Artie was picked up from the vet this morning, but unfortunately was only home for a couple hours before it appeared he may have been experiencing some issues with keeping food down and overall lethargy. Artie was taken back to the vet where xrays were done.

Arties stomach is much more expanded than it should be, and it's unclear why. He has been readmitted so the staff can investigate the cause. It's possible there is an underlying health issue that led to all of this. We hope the staff at SOVSC can determine the cause so it may be addressed. In the meantime, I've made the decision to keep Artie under hospital care rather than risk complication and stress on him having to go back forth from home and Medford. I hope some good progress and updates are made tomorrow and he can come home for good. - Walter

Update: Artie is doing much better and is in good spirits. The staff has reported he has been eating meals, wagging his tail, and quite enjoying all the pets. He will be remaining hospitalized due to some issues keeping food down, but is hopefully expected to be released tomorrow if all goes well.

Thank you everyone for your donations, we are so close to our goal! We really appreciate our amazing community for coming together for our furry four legged officer so quickly. ๐Ÿ• ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ ๐Ÿ’™

The staff at Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center was kind enough to share some photos of Artie today! Thank you guys and gals for taking such good care of my partner!

Artie and Rocco are rocking some special new vests!

Thank you to for this awesome, much appreciated donation of ballistic vests for our furry partners!

These vests are made by LOF (Line Of Fire) and is termed the "Streetfighter." They are uniquely designed to not only perform as typical ballistic protection for our K9's vital organs, but have built in thermal management technology to mitigate heat injury risk, allowing our partners to wear these all shift!

Special shout out to the Arthur R Dubs Foundation! The same foundation that helped start our program has once again got us a new ride for Artie! With the acquisition of this new vehicle, not only is Artie much more comfortable, but the foundation has enabled us to add K9 Rocco to our team!

Thank you to the Arthur R Dubs Foundation for helping our canine program succeed!

Today we received two checks from both Solanos and Ace Hardware of Mount Shasta for a total amount of 8500 dollars! We thank Ace and Solano's for allowing customers the ability to donate to our program via round-up and point-of-sale donations! This round of fundraising is aimed at adding a second K9 to the team!

Without community support from local and nearby individuals and businesses, our program would not be possible. Thank you Mount Shasta Community and our local businesses for helping us achieve our goals to start this year off!

Keep on the lookout for Artie's soon to be dog in-law!

Whoโ€™s a good boy?

On 11/10/2022, K9 Artie and his handler assisted with a traffic stop in the W**d rest stop area as part of the Siskiyou County DHE team. K9 Artie sniffed the stopped vehicle and provided a positive alert to the presence of narcotics. Officers recovered approximately 50 pounds of Fentanyl. The driver was arrested on felony drug charges including transportation and possession for sales.

Great job to K9 Artie and the rest of the DHE team.
