***For Immediate Release***

On Friday May 29th, 2026, Mount Union Officers observed Nathaniel D Fortson Jr age 54 operating a vehicle and driving around the Mount Union area. Throughout the afternoon hours, Officers observed Fortson to be following and circling officers while out on patrol. Officers were aware that Fortson was on a limited ignition interlock license from previous DUI cases. Officers observed Fortson pull into the Wine and Spirits Store located on West Water Street. Officers then pulled into the Wine and Spirits Store and attempted to confirm if the vehicle had an installed interlock system in his vehicle by plain view.

At that time, Fortson came out of the store and immediately became aggressive towards officers. Fortson aggressively approached officers creating a safety concern as Fortson was extremely close to the officers. Officers gave Fortson verbal commands to calm down and step back. Fortson did not comply with those commands and continued to act aggressively. Officers then attempted to use minimal physical force to create a safe distance between officers and Fortson. Fortson fought those actions and began shoving the officers. Officers then drew their less lethal Tasers and again gave Fortson verbal commands. Fortson continued to be non-compliant and officers deployed their Tasers until Fortson was placed under arrest.

Fortson has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction, Disorderly Conduct, and operating a vehicle without ignition interlock.

On Tuesday May 19th, 2026, at approximately 1752 hrs, Officers were dispatched to the area of Federal Drive and Wrangletown Road for an assault. Officers arrived on scene and came into contact with the victim who reported they were sexually assaulted by an unknown male.

Officers began investigating into the alleged assault and where it had occurred. The victim indicated that it occurred in the woods off of East Shirley Street and Wrangletown Road. Officers immediately searched the wooded area and did not locate the suspect. The victim was then transported to the hospital for further evaluation of the alleged assault.

During the course of this investigation, the alleged suspect was identified and interviewed by officers. The alleged suspect provided multiple items of proof that the encounter with the victim was consensual. Witnesses were also located and interviewed verifying accounts of the alleged suspect.

Officers then reinterviewed the victim who then admitted to officers that no assault occurred and that they had lied about the assault to not get into trouble. Witnesses for the victim were also located and information was verified.

Officers will be consulting with the Huntingdon County District Attorney's office about charges being filed for making false police reports.
