Lisbon - Mt Vernon Ambulance Service

Lisbon - Mt Vernon Ambulance Service LMVAS is a local, community oriented ambulance service providing prehospital care to those in the Lisbon and Mount Vernon community. http://www.lmvas.org

Every day, thousands of individuals experience what constitutes a medical emergency: an incident that will, if the individual does not seek immediate treatment, result in serious injury and/or death. Heart attacks, drownings, car accidents, falls, allergic reactions, shootings, and diabetic crises are among the various situations that fall into the emergent category. In such cases, it's pivotal th

at the patient receive medical care as soon as possible. And thus we enter into the field of EMS. Emergency Medical Services, more commonly known as EMS, involves all personnel directly involved with public emergencies. Fire personnel, police officers, EMTs, ER nurses/doctors, and even trained bystanders are part of this broad service. Each sector plays a large role in responding to emergencies, activating the appropriate resources, and resolving whatever the issue may be. As a whole, EMS is an action-packed field, full of uncertainties and constantly changing scenarios. Law officers gets to see the best and worst of people as they attempt to enforce policies. Fire personnel feel the heat as they rush into burning buildings to extinguish engulfing flames. EMTs treat the ill and injured, always ready to assess, treat, and heal those most in need. Together, these public safety workers help to save the lives of people throughout the world. Would you like the opportunity to become part of this elite team and make a big difference, perhaps even saving someone's life? Lisbon-Mt. Vernon Ambulance Service is always accepting applications for highly motivated individuals that would like to explore the medical field. As EMS week 2026 comes to a close, we want to thank the volunteers who every day and every night continue to answer the call for our community. In 2025, LMVAS volunteers dedicated an incredible 23,753 hours of on-call service and responded to more than 900 emergency calls across our communities and surrounding areas.

From pediatric training and hands-on scenario education to late-night emergencies and mutual aid responses, our volunteers continue to prove that rural EMS is built on dedication, compassion, and teamwork.

These hours represent:
β€’ Missed sleep
β€’ Time away from family
β€’ Commitment to neighbors in their moments of greatest need

Because of these volunteers, our communities continue to receive dependable, high-quality emergency medical care 24/7/365.

Today's EMS Week focus is EMS for Children. LMVAS strives to be a pediatric ready service by implementing pediatric training in nearly all of our education. We also provide training specific to our smallest populations such as Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP). Over the last two weeks LMVAS EMTs, AEMTs, and Paramedics have completed NRP taught by members of the UnityPoint St. Luke's NICU transport team.

Happy EMS Week to the LMVAS volunteers!

Today LMVAS is out with two paramedic rigs for two different calls that occurred within minutes of each other. Over 70 times a year LMVAS requires the use of both of their ambulances while only staffing one with an on call crew. This means when two units are needed an "all call" is sent for any availabile volunteers. The fact we are able to respond to all first and second unit calls (sometimes with a little help from our fire departments) shows the dedication of our volunteers to serve our community.

Both crews on the road this morning. Do you have what it takes to joing the crew? Check us out at www.lmvas.org/join.

Tonight LMVAS paramedics reviewed trauma guidelines including traumatic cardiac arrest, fluid resuscitation targets, pain control options, and hands on practice with needle decompression of a tension pneumothorax. Thank you to the LMVAS volunteer paramedics for giving up an evening to train so we can continue to provide an excellent service to our community.
