Today, 11 new probationary firefighters graduated from the Mount Vernon Fire Academy. We are excited that the FDMV is growing which allows for higher levels of safety in the foreground and also fortifies the protection of the citizens of the city of mount Vernon!

At 1241 the Fire Alarm Bureau received multiple 911 calls of a reported structure fire at 111 N 7th Ave. FDMV companies were dispatched, responded, and were on scene within 6 minutes. Upon arrival heavy fire was showing from the front of the house and spread to the neighboring residence. FDMV companies immediately went to work., 113 N 7th avenue. Pelham FD & Eastchester FD provided mutual aid to the city. The fire was placed under control at 1603. There were no casualties or injuries to any residents. 3 FDMV personnel were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Red Cross was on scene to help the 20 displaced residents from both homes.

At 1735 the Fire Alarm Bureau received multiple 911 calls of a reported structure fire at 224 N 5th Avenue. FDMV companies were dispatched, responded, and were on scene within 4 minutes. Upon arriving they found heavy fire showing from a second floor apartment. The main body of the fire was knocked down at 1756. The fire was placed under control at 1822. There were no casualties or injuries and Red Cross was dispatched to help the displaced residents.

At 1750pm a MOS notified Fire Alarm Bureau of a outside rubbish fire at Annie’s Roti Shop at 17 W. Prospect Ave. FDMV units were dispatched & responded. Upon arrival on-scene unit requested a full assignment. Mutual aide companies from Pelham & Eastchester covered the city while FDMV units fought a confirmed structure fire. Units were able to successfully get the fire under control in 30 minutes with the last remaining unit leaving the scene at 1918. No FDMV members or residents of the community were injured during this fire.

At Approximately 14:29 E3 E5 E4 L1 L2 R1 were dispatched to a call of smoke in the building upon arrival it was reported as a 1036. Do to the windy conditions companies are still finding hot pockets but no reports of injury have been reported. Thank you to for the mutual aide

119 S 1st Ave

At approximately 715pm, FDMV dispatch received numerous 911 calls for a report of a structure fire at 119 S 1st Ave. FDMV units responded and upon arrival discovered a previously abandoned house fully involved. Companies responding immediately went to a all hands operation. 3 hand lines were stretched & an outside aerial attack was started. This was a more difficult fire due to the intensity of the flames, and the sub freezing temperatures outside. The fire was put under control at about 830. , & a FEMA ambulance provided mutual aide to the city while the FDMV braved difficult conditions in fighting the fire. The fire was finally out at 230 am. An FDMV unit was left in operation on fire watch. Despite the intense fire & cold, no FDMV firefighters or members of the community were injured.

At approximately 1120 pm Mount Vernon Fire dispatch received calls for reports of smoke coming out of the building at 27 Mount Vernon Ave. FDMV companies were dispatched and responded. Upon arrival companies found a 2-story commercial building fully involved. FD companies immediately went to an all-hands assignment. The fire eventual went to a 3rd alarm with Pelham E5, Eastchester TL 17, and New Rochelle E22 & L12 providing mutual aide into the city. Despite the valiant efforts of all fire personnel on scene, this was a very stubborn fire, with the main body of the fire being knocked down approximately 4 hours later at 336. Even until the early daylight hours FDMV was still on scene putting out pockets of fire. The last company didn't clear the scene until 115pm.
