The city of Pierce City has issued a Boil Order due to a water main break. This order will remain in effect until sometime Thursday or further notice. The utility department is working diligently on getting this issue corrected and water restored.

Help us give a massive shout-out to Amanda Ritchie, who is celebrating 8 years of service with Lawrence County Emergency services as a 911 telecommunicator! 🎉
Amanda is an essential part of our team. During her career here she has worked as a Trainer, TAC, Assisted in Public Education and recently graduated Sum Cum Laude from Drury with a bachelors degree in Human Resources and Organizational Leadership.
Amanda is a mother to three very active children. When Amanda is not at a school or sports event for her kids, she can be found camping, kayaking, reading, gaming, baking, and crocheting. She is always ready to share her love of Harry Potter and swiss rolls.
What is your favorite part about your job? " I love being someone my coworkers, officers, fire fighters and community can rely on. I want to be the dispatcher they trust because they know I will get them help or provide everything they need to work the call."
💡 Amanda's favorite 911 fact is: "If you can't speak, we have text to 911! We also can accept messages, videos, and pictures through links we send. If you're ever in a situation where you need to call 911 but too afraid to speak, we can help."
Amanda's role is key to our community.
Amanda is a true jack of all trades! Whether it’s helping with coverage, taking on something new she is always willing to lend a hand. We appreciate her flexibility, dependability, and willingness to help wherever she is needed! One of Amanda's tools at work is a translation service. Our phone system is able to recognize over 30 languages and translate them in real time. We also have two-way translation for several languages where we will speak in English and the system will verbally translates it into the callers language. As a center we are dedicated to being able to communicate and provide help to our entire community.

🔥 FIRE DANGER ALERT – Halltown Fire Protection District

Southwest Missouri is experiencing exceptionally dry conditions, and we are seeing a significant increase in grass and wildland fires in our area. The combination of low humidity, dry vegetation, and seasonal winds is creating dangerous fire spread potential.

Please take the following precautions:

⚠️ Avoid burning debris, yard waste, or any open burning until conditions improve
⚠️ Do not mow dry grass during the heat of the day — equipment can spark fires
⚠️ Keep vehicles off dry grass — hot exhaust and catalytic converters ignite fires quickly
⚠️ Never discard ci******es from a vehicle window or along roadsides
⚠️ Check local burn bans before any outdoor burning

Fires are spreading rapidly under current conditions. What may seem like a small fire can get out of control within minutes.

If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately. Do not wait to see if it grows.

🚗 911 Tip Tuesday: What to Do When You See a Dangerous Driver

If you observe a dangerous or impaired driver, call 911 when there is an immediate threat or emergency.
Be prepared to provide:
-Your current location
-Direction of travel
-Vehicle description
-License plate number, if safely observable
-What the driver is doing that caused concern
You don't have to know every answer. Our telecommunicators will ask questions and guide you through the call!
Do not follow, pursue, or confront the vehicle.
Keep a safe distance.

🚨 Interested in a Career in 911? 🚨

We’re hosting applicant testing next Tuesday, August 25th at Lawrence County Emergency Services 911 Center in Mt. Vernon!

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to work behind the scenes as a 911 dispatcher, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the career and our center.

Testing will include a communications center tour and several written/testing components.

Still unsure if 911 is right for you? How about a ride-along?

We encourage interested applicants to spend 1–2 hours in our communications center before testing to see the dispatch environment firsthand, meet our team, and get a better understanding of what the job is really like.

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
Northwestern Christian County in southwestern Missouri...
East central Lawrence County in southwestern Missouri...
Southwestern Greene County in southwestern Missouri...

* Until 715 PM CDT.

* At 629 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles northwest
of Republic, moving southeast at 20 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Public.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
Springfield, Republic, Battlefield, Clever, Billings, Brookline,
and Halltown.

This includes Interstate 44 between mile markers 55 and 70.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe
limits, and no longer poses an immediate threat to life or property.
