Working people in Knox County deserve better.

Too many of us are struggling with rising costs, housing insecurity, healthcare expenses, and a political system that seems more interested in serving corporations than ordinary people. Meanwhile, our communities are increasingly being asked to sacrifice land, resources, and infrastructure for the benefit of wealthy investors and large corporations.

We believe ordinary people deserve a voice in the decisions that shape our future.
The Knox Socialist League will be tabling at First Friday tomorrow, and we invite everyone to stop by and talk with us. Whether you're a socialist, socialist-curious, frustrated with the status quo, or simply interested in discussing the challenges facing our community, we'd love to meet you.

We'll have:

📚 Informative leaflets on socialism and KSL

đź”– Free bookmarks with recommended reading

📝 A community board where you can share the biggest issues facing Knox County

🤝 Information about getting involved in local organizing

We will also have petitions available for the Conserve Ohio ballot initiative. This initiative seeks to prohibit the construction of massive data centers consuming more than 25 megawatts of power. If you're a registered Ohio voter, stop by and add your signature.

Most importantly, we want to hear from you. Capitalism encourages isolation, competition, and division, but our greatest strength has always been our communities and our ability to come together to solve problems collectively. Tell us about the challenges you face, the changes you'd like to see, and the future you want for Knox County.

A better future won't be handed to us, we have to build it together.

Stop by, introduce yourself, and join the conversation.

Memorial Day is presented to us as a day of national unity. But working people should ask: whose wars were fought, and who profited?

It has never been the children of billionaires, oil executives, or politicians who fill the graves. It is workers, farmers, and the poor who are sent overseas to fight and die for markets, resources, and empire.

And for every worker who never came home, countless others returned carrying the scars of war for the rest of their lives. Missing limbs. Broken bodies. PTSD. Addiction. Isolation. A generation of men and women sent to fight oil wars, only to come home abandoned by the same government that promised to support them.

KSL stands with all veterans. Many of our own members are veterans, workers who know firsthand the realities of war and sacrifice. Our criticism is not directed at the people sent to fight. It is directed at the capitalist system that profits from endless war while rural and working-class communities pay the price.

Knox County knows this reality well. Communities like ours provide the bodies for America’s wars while corporations collect the contracts and Wall Street collects the profits.

Today we remember the dead, stand with the living, and fight for a future where working people are no longer sent across the world to kill and die for corporate interests.

No war but class war.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the women of Knox County and beyond!

The Knox Socialist League believes the liberation of women is necessary for the liberation of all people, and that the oppression of women remains one of capitalism’s greatest failures. While women are oppressed, no one is truly free.

Today we thank our comrades, mothers, sisters, daughters, workers, caregivers, and friends for the countless ways they strengthen our communities and struggles every day.
We would also like to share a few quotes on the liberation of women from socialists, revolutionaries, and organizers throughout history:

“Women hold up half the sky.”
- Mao Zedong

“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.”
- Audre Lorde

“A society can never be free without women’s liberation.”
- Abdullah Ă–calan

“Socially equal, humanly different, and totally free.”
- Rosa Luxemburg

“There can be no socialist revolution without the liberation of women.”
- Alexandra Kollontai

Gas in Knox County just hit $4.99.
For rural workers and farmers, this is not just about the pump. This is about what comes next.

Fertilizer that once sailed freely through the strait is now caught up in conflict and
disruption. According to the American Farm Bureau 70% of U.S. farmers cannot afford or access sufficient fertilizer for the growing season due to price spikes caused by Middle East conflicts. Fertilizer has increased 30% in 2026 alone.

That means higher input costs. That means tighter margins. That means small farms getting squeezed even harder.

Diesel goes up. Fertilizer goes up.
Transport goes up.

Everything you need to plant, grow, and harvest gets more expensive.

And when costs rise, the system does not protect rural workers. It crushes them.

Small farmers get pushed out.
Workers get underpaid.
Rural communities, just like ours, get hollowed out.

Knox County already runs on long commutes and exported labor. Now the same system is coming for the people who feed it. They will tell you to absorb the costs, take on more debt, or sell out to bigger operations.

This is how they consolidate control. This is how they break rural independence.
And if this escalates further, it will not be corporations that suffer. It will be rural families paying more for fuel, more for supplies, and sending their kids to fight wars tied to the same global system driving these shocks.

This is what comes next.

Higher costs.
More pressure.
Less control over our own livelihoods.

Unless we organize. Find a local org that you believe in and build something local.

They’re rolling out digital price tags at Walmart Mount Vernon and calling it “exciting.”

Let’s be clear about what this actually means.

Walmart is replacing paper tags with digital shelf labels so prices can be updated instantly with the push of a button.

They say it’s about “efficiency.” About “accuracy.”

What it actually does is give corporations the ability to change prices constantly, quietly, and without friction. This creates the infrastructure for algorithmic pricing.
For price hikes that happen faster than workers can react.
For squeezing more out of people already being pushed to the edge.

Now look at the bigger picture.

We are staring down escalation in the Middle East. Conflict with Iran means higher oil prices. Higher transport costs. Higher costs for everything that touches a truck, a shelf, or your kitchen table.

You already feel it every time you fill your tank. You already feel it every time you check out.
And the oil shocks haven’t fully hit us yet.

We see these price hikes at gas stations already. The second crude oil prices spike, the cost per gallon rises but it sure doesn’t lower as quickly.

Now combine that with a system where corporations can adjust prices instantly across entire stores.

They don’t need to wait anymore. They don’t need to print anything. They don’t need to slow down.
They can raise the price instantly.
This isn’t innovation for you. This is control for them.

When global conflict drives up costs, corporations pass it down to us. When technology removes barriers, they pass it down faster.

And when working people in Knox County are already stretched thin, commuting, scraping by, and dealing with rising costs.

The capitalist class doesn’t see a community under pressure.
They see an opening.
Not a crisis. Not hardship.
A revenue stream.
This is what modern capitalism looks like.

Vivek Ramaswamy is exactly what Ohio does not need.

A hedge fund millionaire. A pharmaceutical profiteer. A man who built his wealth not by healing people, but by operating inside a system that turns medicine into a marketplace.

Let’s be clear about what that system looks like.

When your grandmother gets sick, people like Vivek get richer.

When your family is drowning in medical bills, people like Vivek see a revenue stream.

When lifesaving drugs are priced out of reach, that is not a failure. That is the system working exactly as intended.

His career with Roivant Sciences is not something to celebrate. It is a blueprint for how investment firms approach healthcare. Buy, restructure, flip, profit. Human survival treated like an asset class.

Knox County has already lived through what happens when profit comes before people. Our communities were devastated, families were torn apart, and corporations walked away with billions.

This is not about one individual. This is about the system and the class he represents.

He does not represent workers.
He does not represent the sick.
He does not represent the families still dealing with the fallout of corporate medicine.

He represents capital.

Ohio does not need another millionaire politician shaped by that system.
We do not need another servant of a system that decides who gets care based on profit.

No CEOs. No hedge fund politicians. No more profiteers.
