NOW HIRING
The Posey County Commissioners are now accepting resumes for the position of full-time custodian for The Posey County Jail. This position is responsible for light maintenance, ground-keeping, and cleaning. This position is for day shift, full-time Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week. Please submit all resumes via mail or in person to the Posey County Auditor's Office at 126 E Third Street Room 220 Mount Vernon, IN 47620 or by email to [email protected] no later than Friday, April 24, 2026.

Please do not travel today unless absolutely necessary. Most of our county roads have large amounts of drifted snow across them and the main county roads are down to one lane. Our wonderful folks at the Posey County Highway Department are working diligently to get the roads open and passable. Please stay home and let them do their work, if you are out and encounter a snow plow, please give them space. Please be safe and stay warm!

UPDATE: We would also like to thank our Posey County Farming community for assisting in road clearing and vehicle removals. What a great place to live!

If you must be out driving, use caution, take extra time to get where your going, make sure you have a full tank of gas as well as supplies you may need in the event of a slide off.
