Golf Course Closure Notice

Please be advised that our golf course will be closed for a Mount Vernon High School Tournament tomorrow, Thursday, September 3, 2026 from open until 2:00 pm.

The course will be unavailable for regular play during this time. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we host this special event.

Regular golf operations will resume at 2:00 pm tomorrow, Thursday, September 3, 2026.

CITY OF MOUNT VERNON FALL CLEAN UP

The City of Mount Vernon will have a Fall Clean-up event, Friday, October 2nd and Saturday October 3rd. Hours will be 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday and 8am until Noon on Saturday.

This event is only for residents of the City of Mount Vernon and must present your recent utility bill.

The City Maintenance Shed located at 200 N. Spring Park Blvd. will be the drop-off site. City personnel will be available to assist with the unloading of goods. We will be receiving bulky household items, such as furniture, carpet, etc., as well as white goods such as water heaters, ranges, dishwashers, and microwaves.

Freon and or the compressor must be removed from any refrigerator or air conditioning unit before it can be accepted.

Those Senior Citizens or handicapped who are unable to deliver their goods may arrange for curbside pickup by completing the Request Form at City Hall. Please have photo ID ready when submitting the Request Form. All arrangements must be made before the close of business on Thursday, October 1st.

Job Responsibilities Include:
Mowing, trimming, landscaping , and general grounds maintenance
Maintaining City parks, playgrounds athletic fields, trails, and recreational areas

The City of Mount Vernon, Missouri Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer.

The Police Officer will be responsible for protecting life and property, responding to calls for service, enforcing City ordinances and state laws, conducting investigations, making arrests, responding to emergencies, enforcing traffic laws, and providing professional service to the citizens and visitors of Mount Vernon.

Minimum Qualifications
• Must be at least 21 years of age.

Position Summary
The Golf Course Laborer performs a variety of manual labor and grounds maintenance duties necessary to maintain the Mt. Vernon Golf Course in a safe, attractive, and playable condition. This position assists with mowing, landscaping, irrigation, course setup, equipment operation, and general maintenance of the golf course, clubhouse grounds, and related facilities. Employees in this position are expected to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer service for golfers and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.
• Mow greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and other designated turf areas.
• Trim around trees, fences, signs, buildings, bunkers, and landscaped areas using string trimmers and other equipment.
• Assist with daily golf course setup including changing cups, tee markers, ball washers, and trash receptacles.
• Rake and maintain sand bunkers.
• Repair divots, ball marks, and damaged turf.
• Plant, water, fertilize, prune, and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers, and landscaped areas.
• Assist with irrigation system maintenance, including identifying leaks, replacing sprinkler heads, and operating irrigation controls.
• Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, utility vehicles, mowers, tractors, aerators, blowers, chainsaws, and other equipment safely.
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine cleaning of assigned equipment.
• Assist with aerification, topdressing, overseeding, fertilization, pesticide application (under supervision), and other turf management practices.
• Pick up litter and maintain a clean appearance throughout the golf course and surrounding facilities.
• Assist with maintenance of cart paths, bridges, drainage systems, signage, fencing, and other golf course infrastructure.
• Perform snow removal, leaf removal, storm cleanup, and emergency maintenance as needed.
• Assist in preparing the course for tournaments, leagues, and special events.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or maintenance concerns to the Golf Course Superintendent.
• Provide courteous assistance to golfers while maintaining the pace of play and ensuring safe operation of maintenance equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
