💻❤️ Friday, we celebrated our amazing Mrs. Serna for IT Professional Day!

We are so thankful for everything you do for our West staff and students! You are always willing to go above and beyond, whether it’s fixing a technology issue, answering one of our MANY help tickets, or somehow making our computers cooperate when the rest of us have already given up. 😂💻

And here’s something many people may not know: Mrs. Serna works throughout the summer to make sure our technology is ready for the upcoming school year. While the rest of us are enjoying summer, she’s behind the scenes making sure we don’t return to a technological disaster. 😂🙌

Thank you, Mrs. Serna, for always keeping us connected, keeping things running, and coming to the rescue when technology decides to test our patience!

We appreciate you more than you know!

👟💙 Today was HAPPY FEET DAY at West! 💙👟

This is one of those special days we look forward to every year! Thanks to the help of our friends at NexPoint Materials (formerly SABIC) and the Elks, many of our West Warriors are heading home with a brand new pair of shoes and a little extra pep in their steps! 👟✨

The Posey County Happy Feet program is such an incredible gift to our community. Not only does it provide shoes for students at West Elementary, but it also supports students throughout the other Mount Vernon schools. ❤️

We are so grateful for the organizations and community partners who continue to make a difference in the lives of our students. Something as simple as a new pair of shoes can mean so much to a child, and we are lucky to have a community that understands just how important that is.

Thank you, Posey County Happy Feet, NexPoint Materials, Elks and everyone who helps make this wonderful program possible! We appreciate you more than you know!

Our Student Council had a great time representing West Elementary in the River Days Parade today! They loved waving to the crowd, showing off their Warrior pride, and being part of such a special Mount Vernon tradition.

One of the best parts of the day was seeing so many past and present Warriors and teachers along the parade route. From familiar faces who have been part of West for years to current students and staff cheering them on, it was a wonderful reminder that once a Warrior, always a Warrior! ❤️🤍💙

And we even heard people chanting, “West is the best in the whole U.S.!” 🇺🇸❤️💙 We couldn’t agree more! 😉

A special thank you to our Student Council sponsors, Mrs. Simpson and Miss Everett, for spending the day with our students and helping make it such a fun experience! And an extra big thank you to Mrs. Simpson’s husband, Cody, for driving us! We appreciate you!

🇺🇸 Remembering. Honoring. Serving. 🇺🇸

Today, 25 years after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, West Elementary students and staff gathered around our flagpole to remember and honor the lives forever changed on that day.

Mrs. Wilson spoke with our students about the tragedy of 9/11 and reminded us of the incredible courage shown by everyday heroes who ran toward danger when others were running away… firefighters, police officers, paramedics, military members, and ordinary citizens who stepped up to help save lives.

Our Student Council members led the school in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives and the countless heroes who answered the call that day. 🇺🇸

We also took this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to our local public servants who continue to serve and protect our community every day. Their courage, dedication, and willingness to help others remind us that heroes are still among us.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the lives lost, honor the heroes, and continue to teach the next generation about the importance of courage, kindness, service, and community.

Our 4th graders had a great day at River Days!

They kicked off their field trip by attending the Opening Ceremony with the American Legion, then it was time to explore all that River Days had to offer!

🎪 They had a blast on the inflatables,
🪖 stepped back in time while exploring the B Company 507th Living History, and
📖 enjoyed listening to our favorite storyteller, Susan Fowler!

And, of course, no field trip is complete without lunch! Our students enjoyed a sack lunch generously provided to all the schools by McKim’s IGA. We are so thankful for their kindness and support of our students! ❤️

It was a day full of learning, history, fun, and plenty of memories! We love seeing our Warriors out learning and experiencing our community! 💙❤️

Thank you to everyone who helped make River Days such a wonderful experience for our 4th graders! 🌊🇺🇸
