Calling 911 for Non-Emergencies like VIN Inspections, parking complaints, or general information inquiries places a dangerous burden on public safety infrastructure.

Every unnecessary call to an emergency line occupies a dispatcher who could otherwise be fielding a life-or-death report, such as an active structure fire, a severe medical crisis, or a violent crime in progress.

With today being the start of "National Telecommunicators Week" here's your tip for the week!

When you call 911 for a medical emergency, it’s common for both an ambulance and the fire department to respond. That’s because many fire departments are trained and equipped to provide emergency medical care, not just fight fires. Firefighters often arrive first since fire stations are spread throughout the community to ensure fast response times. This allows them to begin critical care—like CPR, using a defibrillator, or controlling bleeding—right away, even before the ambulance arrives.

In many areas, emergency services use a team-based approach to give patients the best possible care. Fire crews can provide extra personnel to help stabilize and move patients safely, especially in serious situations. Meanwhile, the ambulance team focuses on continued treatment and transport to the hospital. This coordinated response helps reduce delays, improve outcomes, and ensure that patients get the help they need as quickly and safely as possible.
