Everyone knows that Mount Vernon is a basketball town. Basketball is in our schools, our homes, our parks, heck, it’s in our blood.

The tragic and unexpected loss of one of our basketball idols hurts every one of us to the very core. The loss of his daughter, Gianna, makes this completely unbearable.

Tonight everyone mourns for the loss of Kobe and GiGi Bryant, along with the other victims of the tragic helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. Our prayers go out to them and their loved ones.

Officer Chris Grieco, one of our School Resource Officers, is in the and is being activated and will be going overseas soon.

As an SRO, he’s assigned to a few schools, one of them being Traphagen Elementary School. His students at Traphagen Elementary heard about him being activated and made him a bunch of going away cards and hearts. We want to let them know we appreciate the love they have for Officer Chris and for our Police Department.

We have quite a few active and military Members in our ranks. We miss each of them when they deploy and wish for their speedy return to not only us, but to their families.

From all of us, we want to wish Chris safe travels and a speedy return.
