Today’s incident involving Brodhead Fire Department is another reminder that emergency scenes are dangerous enough without drivers failing to move over.

Kentucky’s Move Over Law exists to protect firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, tow operators, highway workers, and everyone working on the roadway. When emergency vehicles are stopped with lights activated, you are required to move over to the next lane when safe to do so. If you cannot move over, you MUST slow down and proceed with extreme caution.

There is no excuse for striking emergency vehicles that are clearly blocking and protecting a scene.

Fire trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles positioned on the roadway are there for a reason to protect responders and the public. Every responder on that scene deserves to go home to their family at the end of the call.
