Skagit County has abundant resources along its marine shorelines that rely on clean water. One of the primary goals of Skagit County's Clean Water Program (CWP) is to ensure the waters are free of pollution. In recent years, areas around the county including the Samish and Padilla Bay basins have suffered severe f***l coliform pollution issues. Bacteria in our rivers, streams, and bays often reach
levels too high for safe shellfish harvest and recreation. In addition, farmers are worried about the water quality and the need to provide consumers the assurance that their food products are safe. We at Skagit County Clean Water are dedicated to finding and fixing sources of pollution, and encouraging landowners and homeowner to adopt practices that protect our water quality. Our many partners include Skagit County, the State Departments of Ecology, Health, and Agriculture, the Skagit Conservation District, the Skagit Conservation Education Alliance, the Samish Tribe, the Western Washington Agricultural Association, the Washington State Dairy Federation, EPA, and Taylor Shellfish, among others. Our goal is to keep our local waterways clean by encouraging landowners and homeowners to adopt practices that protect water quality, and sharing local water quality information.
