Mount Vernon Police Association The Mount Vernon Police Association is the organizing unit for the 200 uniformed Members of the Mount Vernon Police Department.

The Mount Vernon Police Association represents the Uniformed Members of the Mount Vernon Police Department, from Probationary Police Officer to the Chief of Police. Our goal is to protect the Citizens of Mount Vernon by ensuring that the Members of Service of the Mount Vernon Police Department are in the best physical, social, economic and mental condition.

On Tuesday evening members of MVPD Violent Crime unit were conducting an investigation in the area of Ebony Gardens, which after a brief struggle led to the arrest of individual in possession of a loaded firearm which was on their person.

On 7/12/24 VCU Detectives conducted an investigation of a vehicle containing five occupants that disregarded multiple traffic control devices. Officers conducted a traffic stop and upon approach officers were able to develop probable cause and remove said individuals from the vehicle which led to the recovery of an illegal firearm and arrest of an individual.

VCU Detectives were conducting an investigation on a dispute and came into contact with a suspect wearing a ballistic vest. While Detectives were trying to ascertain further information the suspect took off running, a foot pursuit ensued and the suspect was apprehended with the assistance from members of FBI Safe Streets Task Force shortly thereafter an illegally possessed firearm was recovered.

On July 4th our Violent Crimes Unit Detectives saw a potential for violence after observing several large groups, parties, and several VCO offenses such as public drinking. Detectives conducted a traffic stop that lead to a further investigation and recovery of an illegally possessed revolver and the arrest of a person.

Overworked, underpaid, and extremely short staffed, but we're still out there keeping our city safe.
