* Until 615 PM EDT.

* At 530 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Normantown,
or 10 miles east of Soperton, and is nearly stationary.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
Lyons, Vidalia, Oak Park, Tarrytown, Covena, Zaidee, Gillis
Springs, Kibbee, and Normantown.
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING
Heat Advisory issued August 17 at 3:20AM EDT until August 17 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Peachtree City GA
* WHAT...Heat index values up to 109.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central,
northeast, northwest, southeast, and west central Georgia.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses. Overnight temperatures and humidity will remain
elevated, providing little relief for vulnerable populations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Highest heat index values will occur from late
morning through late afternoon.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

An active pattern will continue to bring heavy to excessive rainfall and flash flooding threats to the Midwest and Ohio Valley over the next couple of days. A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of northwestern Toombs, south central Emanuel, southeastern Treutlen and northeastern Montgomery Counties through 430 PM EDT
Special Weather Statement issued August 16 at 3:52PM EDT by NWS Peachtree City GA
At 352 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was over Zaidee, or near
Soperton, moving southeast at 10 mph.

HAZARD...Up to 40 mph wind, frequent cloud to ground lightning and
heavy rain.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
light, unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.

Locations impacted include...
Soperton, Vidalia, Oak Park, Zaidee, Gillis Springs, and Normantown.
People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear
thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Motorists
should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of control due to
hydroplaning.

A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of central Wheeler and central Montgomery Counties through 315 PM EDT

At 238 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was near Alamo, moving east at
15 mph.

HAZARD...40 to 50 mph wind, pea sized hail and frequent cloud to
ground lightning.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
light, unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
Alamo, Mount Vernon, Glenwood, Ailey, Alston, and Landsburg.

Please be advised that Bear Creek Road will be closed between Braddy Road and Highway 29 due to emergency road work.

🛠 Estimated Closure: Approximately 3 days

We will provide updates if the work extends beyond the estimated timeframe.

♻️ The Recycle Center will remain OPEN and accessible from the Hwy 29 end during road work.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as these improvements are made. Please plan an alternate route and drive safely in the area.
