The Mount Vernon Police Department would like to let everyone know that you may see David out in our community over the coming days.

David has obtained the required permit through Mount Vernon City Hall and is authorized to go door-to-door offering residents the opportunity to purchase reading materials.

If he stops by your home, please know that he is operating legally with a valid city permit. Of course, whether you choose to speak with him or make a purchase is completely up to you.

As always, if you ever have questions or observe suspicious activity, don’t hesitate to contact Lawrence County Dispatch at 417-316-6006 and ask to speak with a Mount Vernon Police Department officer.

🚨 Community Alert – Vehicle Break-Ins & Thefts 🚨

The Mount Vernon Police Department is currently investigating a recent rash of vehicle break-ins and thefts. Over the past two days, officers have taken more than 20 reports involving vehicles that were broken into or items stolen.

We are asking everyone to take a few simple precautions to help protect your property:
Always lock your vehicle, even if it is parked at your home.
Do not leave valuables in plain sight or inside your vehicle, including:
• Cash
• Wallets or purses
• Fi****ms
• Electronics
• Keys
• Other valuable personal property

If you have any information related to these incidents, witnessed suspicious activity, or need to report a vehicle break-in or theft, please contact Lawrence County Dispatch at 417-316-6006 and ask to speak with a Mount Vernon Police Officer.

Your awareness and cooperation can help us identify those responsible and prevent additional crimes. If you see suspicious activity, report it immediately.

As we prepare to celebrate our nation’s independence this weekend with friends, family, and fireworks, the Mount Vernon Police Department wants to remind everyone to keep safety a top priority.
🎉 Happy Fourth of July! We hope you enjoy the festivities.
However, we urge you to remember: Arrive Alive. Drive Sober.
If your celebrations involve alcohol, please plan ahead:
✅ Designate a sober driver.
✅ Call a taxi or use a rideshare service.
✅ Host responsibly and help friends get home safely.

Remember although fireworks are fun. They can also be very dangerous. Please remember to keep safety in mind and have a great and fun Fourth of July from the Mount Vernon Police Department! ❤️

🎆 Friendly Reminder from the Mount Vernon Police Department 🇺🇸

As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day, the Mount Vernon Police Department would like to remind everyone that while the City's annual Red, White & Boom fireworks show is tomorrow, private fireworks are not permitted until July 4.

In accordance with the City of Mount Vernon ordinance, private fireworks may only be discharged on July 4 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. (midnight).

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping keep our community safe and enjoyable for all residents. Please be respectful of your neighbors, pets, veterans, and those who may be sensitive to loud noises.

🚨 Mount Vernon Police Department Seeking Information 🚨

On 06/27/2026, Mount Vernon Police Department officers responded to a report of vandalism and trespassing at a local golf course.

The reporting party advised that three juveniles were observed riding bicycles through the golf course, leaving tracks on the course due to the soft ground conditions. When confronted by the golf course groundskeeper, the juveniles fled the area on foot, leaving their bicycles behind.

The bicycles pictured were recovered and are currently in the possession of the Mount Vernon Police Department.

If you have any information regarding this incident, or if the juveniles would like to claim their bicycles, please contact Mount Vernon Non-Emergency Dispatch and ask to speak with Corporal Moyer.

The Mount Vernon Police Department is proud to announce the promotions of two outstanding members of our team.

⭐ Officer T. Taylor has been promoted to Detective. Officer Taylor joined the Mount Vernon Police Department bringing nearly 16 years of law enforcement experience with him. His dedication, knowledge, and commitment to serving our community have been a valuable addition to our department.

⭐ Officer V. Moyer has been promoted to Corporal. Officer Moyer came to Mount Vernon PD with over 20 years of law enforcement experience. His leadership, professionalism, and years of service continue to strengthen our department.
