Northwest Clean Air Agency

Northwest Clean Air Agency Working to protect and improve air quality in Washington's Island, San Juan, Skagit, and Whatcom counties.

Since the passage of the Washington State Clean Air Act in 1967, the Northwest Clean Air Agency has been the primary government agency responsible for protecting the air in Island, Skagit and Whatcom counties. We are responsible for enforcing federal, state and local air quality regulations at stationary sources of air pollution in our jurisdiction. In addition to regulating businesses, we focus on informing the public about air quality issues and how to make clean air choices.

Limit activities like driving and using gasoline-powered gear during the day's hottest hours to avoid creating ozone.

Expect Good to Moderate conditions on 6/23 in Island, San Juan, Skagit, and Whatcom counties. Stagnant weather is preventing dispersion of particle pollution from human activities and small regional fires.

Upper-level haze may appear strong at times, though ground concentrations will remain in the Good to Moderate range.

Check back regularly for updates as smoke conditions can change quickly during wildfire season.

Idling is bad for the air and bad for your car.

Idling can damage engine components and shorten the life of your battery. It also lowers your average MPG, which not only wastes fuel but also contributes unnecessary pollution to our air.

While some idling can't be avoided, it is important to make driving choices that limit idling.
