The Marblemount bridge will be closed overnight on weekdays, Monday night through Friday morning, 8pm - 4am, from June 1 - June 19 due to ongoing construction efforts to rehabilitate the aging bridge infrastructure. There will be ongoing work on the bridge during daytime hours as well, but the road will reopen each day and every weekend for normal traffic.

With the road washout over Jordan Creek on Rockport Cascade Road this past December due to the flood event, the closure of the Marblemount bridge means visitors and residents east of the bridge will be cut off from accessing State Route 20. First responders will still be able to access the area if an emergency occurs during the closures.

A modified burn ban for all residential and land-clearing fires in unincorporated Skagit County will go into effect on June 15, 2026, and continue until further notice. Skagit County will no longer issue permits for burn activities, and existing permits will be suspended.

More information on what is allowed during the burn ban can be found here: https://www.skagitcounty.net/Departments/Home/press/052126.htm

The Skagit County Fire Marshal's Office has decided to proactively have a “set date” to allow the public to know when to expect burn restrictions every year. In the past, we have not been able to provide much notice by waiting until the weather models, vegetation flammability, and fire potential have reached elevated risk levels.

The Skagit County Fire Marshal reviews the seasonal forecasts for drought, precipitation, relative humidity, and heat each year to assess our yearly fire risk. Skagit County is in a drought again this year and weather outlooks are predicting our region to be very dry and hot this summer. With these risks in mind, our fire chiefs and fire marshal believe it best to continue using a set date for the county burn ban.

In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS professionals and the important work they do in our nation's communities.

National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's frontline.

This week we honor the dedication, resilience, and compassion of EMS professionals everywhere.

We are grateful to our own Skagit County EMS system partners- the dedicated dispatchers, firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics, and other emergency personnel who stand on the front lines, ready to help during our toughest moments. Your courage and compassion do not go unnoticed. Thank you.

Join us this week as we celebrate the incredible individuals who answer the call when we need it most.
