What a funny idea, a neighborhood friendly trickster 🤡

Why are more trick-or-treaters stuffing whole potatoes in their bags?

While no one can say for certain who was the first to hand out potatoes on Halloween, Pat Foy, a resident of Lancaster, Pa., was among the earliest to the game.

He began doing it about 20 years ago, saying the idea to offer a choice between candy and a potato came to him as something of a lark. He wanted to bring the “trick” element back to trick-or-treating and the potato became the vehicle to do that, especially as a way to celebrate his Irish heritage.

When a larger-than-expected share of children opted for a potato, a tradition was born. Now, Foy is known in town as the “potato man” and long lines form at his house every Halloween. “I’m a prisoner of my own practical joke,” he said.

If your student is in need of dental care, Northeastern School District is partnering again with an outside company, Smile Pennsylvania, to provide full dental care for your student while he/she is at school. This company will bring a state licensed dentist to the school and will check your student’s mouth and teeth, as well as provide a cleaning, x-rays as necessary, fluoride treatment and apply sealants, as needed. Additional care, such as fillings, may also be provided. A dental report card will be sent home with your student.
