Every day, our firefighter/paramedics and EMTs respond when seconds matter most. 💙 Our EMS services include:
• Cardiac monitoring
• Medication administration
• Airway management
• Oxygen therapy
• CPR & AED use
• Trauma care
• Patient assessments
• Life-saving emergency interventions

From medical emergencies and vehicle accidents to mutual aid responses and public assistance calls, the members of Mt. Zion Fire Protection District are committed to providing professional, compassionate care to our community 24/7.

During EMS Week, we proudly recognize the dedication and sacrifice of all EMS providers who answer the call every day and night!

🇺🇸 Please join us in thanking the Paramedics, EMTs, and Firefighters who help keep our communities safe.

Key boxes are typically installed on or near front doors to allow fire personnel quick access to your home during an emergency. They are especially helpful for elderly residents, individuals with medical conditions, those living alone, or anyone who experiences frequent falls.

If you need a key box installed—or if you already have one that’s no longer necessary—contact your local fire department for assistance with installation or removal.

For more information contact your local Fire Department.

When vents for furnaces, dryers, fireplaces, or water heaters are blocked by snow or ice, deadly carbon monoxide can back up into your home. Take a few minutes during and after winter storms to check outside vents and carefully clear them if needed.

✔ Keep at least 3 feet around vents clear
✔ Watch for drifting snow after heavy winds
✔ Never ignore CO alarm alerts

A quick check can help keep your family safe and warm this winter.

Here’s a clear, seasonal Facebook post based on the heating safety message in the flyer:

---

**Springfield Fire Department Heating Safety Reminder**

As temperatures drop, many of us turn to fireplaces, wood stoves, space heaters, and other heating sources to stay warm. Please take a moment to review these important safety tips to help keep your home and family safe this winter.

**Space Heaters**
• Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn
• Turn them off when you leave the room or go to bed
• Plug heaters directly into wall outlets – never into power strips
• Make sure your heater has an automatic shut-off in case it tips

**Fireplaces & Wood Stoves**
• Always use a glass or metal screen to prevent embers from escaping
• Never burn paper in your fireplace or stove
• Put the fire out before leaving home or going to bed
• Store cooled ashes in a covered metal container outside, at least 3 feet from the home
• Have your chimney inspected and cleaned yearly

**Furnaces & Kerosene Heaters**
• Have your furnace inspected annually
• Use only kerosene heaters from recognized testing laboratories
• Ensure heaters have automatic shut-off features
• Refuel kerosene heaters only when they’re cool, and do it outside

A little extra caution goes a long way toward preventing dangerous home fires. If you have questions about heating safety or want more information, visit **[www.usfa.fema.gov/prevention/outreach](http://www.usfa.fema.gov/prevention/outreach)**.

Stay warm, stay safe, Springfield.
