πŸ”₯ πŸš’ Special Weather Statement issued March 28 at 8:52PM EDT by NWS Morristown πŸš’ πŸ”₯

Fire weather concerns exist again for midday Sunday into the evening due to a very dry airmass and breezy south to southwest winds.

Relative humidity values are expected to drop into the teens and lower 20s across the whole region. Winds will gust up to 25 mph.

Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers.

Additionally, exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks and keep vehicles off of dry grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly.

Lastly, remember to obey local burn bans.

Now that it's wildfire season in Tennessee, it's time to break down some key terms used to describe wildfire statuses:

πŸ”₯ Active: Any fire that hasn’t been fully extinguished is considered active.

πŸ”₯ Contained: A fire is contained when control lines (also called fire lines) completely surround it and are expected to prevent further spread. These lines can be man-made (created with tools or dozers) or natural, like rivers, creeks, or roads.

πŸ”₯ Controlled: A fire is controlled when control lines are reinforced, hotspots near the lines are cooled, and any unburned areas within the lines are intentionally burned out. At this stage, the fire is unlikely to escape under normal conditions.

πŸ”₯ Fire Out: A fire is officially out when all visible flames and hotspots are extinguished, and there’s no chance of reignition. At this point, suppression efforts are complete.

Stay informed and stay safe this wildfire season!
