This last week the department has responded to several MVA's (Motor Vehicle Accidents) so last night's training was a great night to refresh our auto extraction techniques. So for 3 hours we worked especially with our younger firefighters on cribbing, airbags, jaws, and patient extraction.

You can never train too hard!

Good Morning Fans.

Well got up late last night and liked what the radar was showing. So I remained up for a bit to make sure and went to bed.

Now for a Public Service Announcement. Please be very cautious where you get your weather updates. I saw this post floating around yesterday and people were sharing it getting concerned. It's these kinds of posts that get people in panic mode. Don't fall for it. We recommend KY3 Weather and US National Weather Service Springfield Missouri for your before the storm predictions.

Many of these sights "hype up" these storms so they get followers and subscribers. Or as the normal terminology is now "the fake news" so use caution and don't trust everyone on Facebook. Honestly even myself making the post will get it wrong but, only post when it gets criteria.

So with that being said, Sun is due to come out today and temps will be enjoyable. So enjoy your Sunday and as always, stay safe.

Latest update. Several models are looking better for the Wright County and East of us.

We have even been taken out of the Watch. As this storm hits the 65 Corridor it appears it will quickly lose strength and when it finally gets here should just be a good thunderstorm with some heavy rain.

But just in case we will still get up later in the night to make sure there are no threats.

It's gonna be a possible late night for us, but will be setting the alarm to make sure and be up before the storm to monitor.

A line of strong to severe storms will move through the area late this evening through tonight. Here is a map of estimated storm time of arrival.

Be weather aware!!!!!!

Minor flooding will be an issue. Small creeks are flooding.

Multiple rounds of of strong to severe storms will pose a risk for damaging straight line winds, large hail, and a brief tornado today and tonight. There is higher confidence in the round of storms this evening into tonight.

Good morning all, weather could be moving back in. As always we will be monitoring the situation. Recently there has been much debate about storm sirens and what they are meant for so we thought instead of posting in the comments just share this on here. It's gonna be warm today so stay hydrated and as always, stay safe out there!

Update on the storm siren. So a technician was here today and it was discovered that a lighting strike caused the malfunction of the siren.

This was actually a blessing though. That siren was nearly 55 years old and outdated. Since it was insured we found that it is covered and we will be receiving a brand new one!

This old siren would spin slowly in a circle warning. This new one will be a new 360 at all times siren. So we are updating.

Also we have been working on a grant to add 2 more sirens. Its at the state level now and looking good. If we do get the grant we will go to 4 storm sirens within the city. These 2 would also be the 360 continuous siren.

Please keep in mind one thing though, it is in fact a Myth that these are designed to warn people in their homes. Through out the nation NOAA designed these to warn people outside of dangerous weather. But adding some new ones to cover more area, more people with be able to hear them in their homes which is even better news for all.

Good morning to all. Have some things to go over this morning so maybe long but important information. So will try and break them down.

1. Many asked why after we posted we should be clear all of a sudden the warning and shelters being opened. Basically we go off the NWS (National Weather Service) once they issue a Warning we go into storm mode. Spotters go out, shelters open, and well as you know I myself man the page. NWS must have seen a shift in the storm and decided to expand the Warning further East. So we did what was best and took proper precautions .

2. The South Side Siren is down. This is something we was unaware of. Same as a car breaking down, furnace going down etc.. we have already made call to have it worked on ASAP.

3. Remember the storm sirens are designed to warn people who are outside to take cover. They are not designed to be a warning for our homes when inside. Yes the closer you live to one you can hear them inside and that is great but they are not meant for inside buildings.

4. We had many questions where shelters are located in other towns to our West. Sadly we really me, David, kinda failed you on this and this week will work on finding the locations for future storms.

5. During a storm, we are not the best at answering questions and PM's as we are focused on the storms and minute to minute updates. We do try and answer you but as you may have noticed it can be very busy during a storm.

Our focus is 100% on the safety of our community. There is always room for improvement and we are human and make mistakes. During a storm we are first off hoping to have enough firefighters respond. We have to get spotters out to their locations, open shelters, be monitoring radar, radio communications, and of course updating you. It takes a team to do this.
