⚠️ HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT: Mountain Home, ID ⚠️

We are facing extreme heat this week with temperatures expected to reach between 98°F and 106°F! High temperatures like this increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

Review the signs of heat illness and seek medical attention immediately if you or someone else experiences them. Stay cool and stay safe, Gunfighters!

Gunfighters hold the American flag and all that it symbolizes in the highest regard.

Recent severe weather events have caused significant damage to some of the flags normally flown across the base. Out of respect for our nation's colors, we took down the damaged flags and immediately ordered proper replacements. We appreciate the community’s patience and shared commitment to honoring our national symbol during this brief transition.

Per the U.S. Flag Code, flags that are worn or damaged beyond serviceability must be retired in a dignified manner. If you have a personal flag that needs to be retired, please do not dispose of it in standard trash. Instead, please use one of these authorized collection and drop-off points for a proper ceremonial retirement:

American Legion Post 26, 515 East 2nd South, Mountain Home, ID
American Legion Post 2, 11692 W. President Dr., Boise, ID
American Legion Post 113, 22 W. Broadway Ave., Meridian, ID

"I joined the Air Force for the flying, but I stayed because of all of you."

After 22 years of dedicated service, Gunfighters recently bid farewell to our deputy commander, Col. Roderick “Brick” James. From his final flight in the F-15E Strike Eagle to receiving the Legion of Merit, we honored a career defined by leadership and commitment.

Reflecting on his service, James said, "I told Airmen, as a deputy commander and a squadron commander, if I could influence one Airman in a day...then I did my job."

Thank you for your leadership and service, sir. We wish you and your family all the best as you embark on your next journey.

What began as a routine off-duty landscaping job quickly became a race against time.

When a fast-moving brush fire threatened a home, Tech. Sgt. Reuben Krueger and Senior Airman Joshua Workman relied on their training, quick thinking and determination to help organize a community response. Working alongside homeowners and neighbors, they used heavy equipment to establish firebreaks and slow the advancing flames, halting the blaze approximately 25 feet from the home.

Their actions are a reminder that the Gunfighter spirit extends beyond the mission, bringing readiness, innovation and teamwork to every challenge, on or off duty.

On this day in 1944, during the fierce Battle of St. Lo. A U.S. armored column plunged straight into a massive enemy ambush. The only thing standing between them and disaster? The pilots of the 366th Fighter Group, famously known as "Holt's Hun Hunters."

Battling pouring rain, a dangerously low 1,000-foot cloud ceiling and relentless anti-aircraft fire, these brave P-47 Thunderbolt pilots didn't hesitate. They dove straight into the fight, destroying 35 out of 60 enemy armored vehicles and completely shattering the ambush to save the ground troops below.

For their incredible bravery against the odds, the 366th Fighter Group earned the very first Distinguished Unit Citation awarded in the European Theater!
