For those thinking about coming out the Tuesday after Labor Day (Sept 8th), the Visitor Center will be closed on the 8th. That means no rentals, but it doesn't mean you can't bring out your own boards and still enjoy the park!

We are doing a to the year 2000!🎥

This old educational video highlights many familiar places to todays’s visitors. Over the past two decades, our park has grown in many ways, but our dunes, birdwatching, and shared love for our observing our night sky has stayed true.🦉💫🔭

Owl be honest... we love our bird friends, especially the Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus).🦉🤎

In honor of International Owl Awareness Day, we’re highlighting this incredible species that calls Bruneau Dunes State Park home.

Known as the “tiger of the air,” Great Horned Owls are recognized by their bright yellow eyes, distinctive feather tufts (“horn”), and remarkable adaptability. From towering sand dunes and sagebrush to rugged desert canyons, they thrive in some of Idaho’s toughest landscapes. Their varied diet and ability to nest in a wide range of locations help them succeed where many other species cannot.

Even these resilient predators face challenges, including habitat loss, rodenticide poisoning, and vehicle collisions.

The next time you explore Bruneau Dunes, take a moment to appreciate the incredible adaptations that help wildlife thrive in the desert. By protecting these unique landscapes, we help ensure Great Horned Owls and other native species continue to call them home.

Happy World Ranger Day!🤎🏖️

Today, we’re celebrating the dedicated park rangers who help make Bruneau Dunes a special place. From connecting visitors to the park through our observatory programs, maintaining park facilities, and helping keep everyone safe, their work makes a lasting impact every day.

We are incredibly grateful for everything they do. Bruneau Dunes (and our agency) wouldn’t be the same without our team.

A special thank you to our rangers Greg, John, Brad, and Mike for your dedication, hard work, and commitment to our park and its visitors.👏

Starting July 10th, 2026, the Equestrian Campground at Bruneau Dunes State Park will be under Stage 1 fire restrictions. This does not impact the Broken Wheel or Eagle Cove campgrounds.
