The James H. Quillen VA Medical Center is proud to recognize 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐫 𝐈𝐈 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬, who recently celebrated an extraordinary milestone his 101st birthday.
Mr. Vickers served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II, including participation in the Battle of the Bulge, the final major German offensive along the Western Front. He recalled the rabbit fur lined jacket he wore during the campaign, a piece of equipment he credits with helping him endure the extreme winter conditions faced by American soldiers.
During a recent visit to the Mountain City Outpatient Clinic, Mr. Vickers was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and a commemorative coin on behalf of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, recognizing his service, sacrifice, and lifelong commitment to our nation.
When asked about the secret to reaching 101 years, Mr. Vickers spoke of the importance of a strong support system especially the dedicated care of his daughter, Deborah Maxey, who proudly joined him in celebrating this momentous occasion.
