Heart of the Hills Fisheries Science Center will be closed to the public August 12th, 2026. HOH staff will be attending our annual division staff meeting. HOH will re-open to the public the following Monday. Thank you.

Ride along on a river survey 🐟

We’re sampling fish in the Guadalupe River near Kerrville to see the impacts of the flood on the ecosystem.
📏 Fish are caught, measured, and examined.

We’re seeing healthy fish populations including juvenile Largemouth Bass and Guadalupe Bass (which is a species only found in Texas), catfish, and important bass food sources such as sunfish and gizzard shad.

Heart of the Hills Fisheries Science Center will be closed to the public on the following dates surrounding the holidays:

1. November 24th & 26th
2. December 22nd & 24th
3. December 29th* & 31st

*December 29th Christmas Bird count personnel only. HOH is otherwise closed to the public.

Heart of the Hills Fisheries Science Center will be closed to the public on Wednesday, July 2nd. We will reopen to the public the following Monday, July 7th.

In light of Kerrville becoming the 11th "Bird city" in Texas, Heart of the Hills Fisheries Science Center will now be open to the public Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 am to 4 pm. These days are occasionally subject to holiday closures and staff availability, but you can find updates here on our page.
