I would like to take a minute and thank the Arkansas Division of Forestry for all they do for the Rural Fire Departments in our state. The Buford Fire Department has recently had several large out of control fires which burned hundreds of acres. Had it not been for the assistance we received from the surrounding area Fire Departments and Arkansas Forestry Crews we could not have saved several homes and even more acreage. Baxter County Division of Arkansas Forestry came to our aid last Tuesday and worked diligently and professionally. Without the help from Arkansas Forestry Firefighters and the Baxter County Rural Firefighters who came to our assistance, I feel we would not have been able to hold the line and extinguish the fires in time to save the structures threatened by the careless burning of the person or persons who stated that fire.

Wednesday brought about even more fires. A fire started again, by I believe a careless act of a person or persons who allowed a fire to get out of control and threaten even more structures and homes in the Buford Community, and this fire was extinguished just in time to avoid several more homes from being lost. Six different crews were sent out by the Arkansas Forestry Division to assist the Buford Firefighters who spent four days working these fires. Arkansas Forestry Crews from Baxter, Fulton, Izard, Marion, Searcy and Stone Counties, with the help of two Aircraft from Arkansas Forestry which made four water drops in order to contain this fire, were all on scene. Additional crews assisting the Buford Fire Department, were firefighters from the Cotter Gassville Rural Fire Department, Norfork Fire Department and Salesville Fire Department to help control these fires and I can’t leave out the help we received from the Dispatchers of Baxter Counties 911 Office. I don’t have all the names of the Firefighters from the different departments however without the assistance from all involved we could not have contained these fires. No structures were lost and everyone went home. That makes for a good day!

Just got home from working a fire with the help of Cotter Gassville Rural Firefighters and Arkansas Forestry Firefighters from Baxter, Izard, Marion and Searcy County Agencies. Thank you for your help, Arkansas Forestry and CGRFD. We are currently under a Red Flag Fire Warning, People, Please Stop Starting Fires.

Our Last post left out an agency that we could not function without. Arkansas Forestry deserves much more credit than they get. The last three days Arkansas Forestry has been on scene with Buford Fire side by side working to keep our community safe. The crews from Baxter County and Marion County are always helping out when we need them and do an excellent job. Thank you, Arkansas Forestry for all you do.

We would like to thank the firefighters from Cotter Gassville Rural F.D., Norfork F.D., Tracy F.D. and Salesville F.D. for their help with the recent Buford F.D. fires. We have been pretty busy dealing with out-of-control fires. The recent fires have been the results of people burning and allowing fires to get out of control, this puts property and lives in danger. Please stop burning until the conditions get better to safely burn. Thank you!
