The champion (middle student in photo) will participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C., in May 2026 for an opportunity to become the national winner. We’re excited to share a new resource designed for schools, by schools: the Regional School Crisis Response Team.

This collaborative team provides coordinated, professional support to help districts navigate and recover from critical incidents. From emotional support for staff and students to guidance in planning and communication, our goal is to ensure schools are never alone in times of crisis.

Check out this video created by John Engelking, Regional Manager, Career and Technical Education (CTE), at NESC. It highlights some of the amazing projects happening at our regional schools made possible through grants awarded to schools from our CTE program. The grants have purchased training tools such CPR manikins, digital cameras and accessories, construction materials, welding supplies, and more, to help support our students as they learn new trades and skills.

The Northeast Service Cooperative is developing a Regional School Crisis Response Team supported by the Minnesota Department of Education. This model has been used throughout the state by Minnesota Service Cooperatives and has been effective in serving schools during their time of need.

We are amazed at the school districts and community partners coming together with a passion to serve. We had 21 team members from 14 agencies take part in the first day of training, including school staff members, sheriff and EMS staff, behavioral health providers, nurses, local public health staff, crisis response directors, and our dietician. Thank you to all who have volunteered your time for such an important cause.
