It’s been a long week! I could name all the departments that helped our community but I’m not, I may leave out someone. Instead thank everyone for the long hours helping to clear roads, working on power lines, providing meals for the community, checking on their neighbors. It’s amazing how everyone comes together when there is a disaster! I don’t think I went on any road where there wasn’t power lines and trees down. Trees on houses, buildings, vehicles, power poles broke. I spent that night at the fire station along with 3 county employees. Our first call was at Burrells ford road around 7pm. A vehicle ran in the ditch dodging a tree that had fallen. After completing the call we preceded back to the station but we had to stop 3 different times to cut trees that had fallen behind us while we were at Burrells ford road. Most people didn’t get to see a lot of the damage throughout mountain rest. I’ve posted a few pictures so you can get an idea of the damage the storm did throughout mountain rest. I’m going to name the members of mountain rest fire department who helped these past days in clearing road and checking on our community. Truman Nicholson, Jac Cashin, Jared Lowery, Tasha Lowery, Savanna Lowery, Rannie Bond, Kyle Fox, Chris Holcomb, Dwayne Peay, Bill Simmons. Thank you all and a special thank you to there wives who was at home while they were out clearing roads.

C**t Burtons friends from the Low Country " The McCutcheon Family and Friend" are going to be providing the Tamassee-Salem Community with 200 Free to Go Plates on Saturday October 5th at 5:00 across from the Tap Room. Please do not block the private drive. This is such a God Given Blessing that he laid on these peoples heart. We have been so Blessed and Continue to Be. If You have been blessed please reach out and bless others. This is incredible!!! This group will also be taking 200 plates to Walhalla VFW Parking Lot . If you know of anyone in that area that needs a hot meal please let them know.

Went jeep riding thru the mountains yesterday evening with some good friends. We had a blast, had a little camp fire and fried some bologna for sandwiches. Started back around 8 pm. On our way back we ran across 5 abandoned puppies on a dirt road. Probably been there a couple days. We opened some weiners and crackers and they ate that in a minute. Got them water. Made some phone calls and our friends that live above us said they would hold them until we find them a home. So we loaded them in the jeep and they crawled under the seat and sleep all the way back. Our friends gave them baths, flea kill and something for worms. They have had there share of food today and they are running around playing.
We are looking for some good homes for these fur balls. They are one girl and four boys. One is brown and the other four are black. They would make some good puppies for kids or adults. So please help us in finding good homes for these puppies. I would say they are between 6-8 weeks old. If interested leave me a message and I’ll get in touch with you. Thank you in advance in helping find homes for these puppies. They are located in Mountain Rest.

-Open House Today From 11am-3pm-

Mountain Rest Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad invites community residents for open house from 11 to 3 today May 18, we will have dogs, slaw, chips and drinks., no charge.
Mountain Rest is recruiting volunteers. We are in need of volunteer fire fighters or Medical First Responder to become part of a tradition in Mountain Rest and it’s a good way to be part of the community.

Mountain Rest Fire and Rescue will be holding a Open House “Volunteer Drive” on May 18, 2024 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at 130 Verner Mill Road in Mountain Rest. We will be giving away 1000 hot dogs which includes slaw, chips and drinks until it’s all gone. All community residents are invited to attend. We are in need of volunteer fire and rescue personnel. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer in our community please come out on May 18 and talk to one of our volunteer staff. All training is paid to become a firefighter or an emergency medical responder. You may be interested in one or both, both provide help in emergency situations. Weather you want to join or not come on out and get a hot dog and see our station, engines, rescue vehicles, extrication equipment etc. Our very first Mountain Rest fire engine (1964) with be at the station. We are in the process of trying to get it up and running again. Future possibilities are to be in Christmas parades and filling pools.

Forest service will be conducting a control burn off Turkey Ridge road in Long Creek today March 14.

The Andrew Pickens Ranger District will be conducting a prescribed burn on the State Line Burn Unit today. The unit is in Oconee County on USFS lands near the intersection of Hwy. 107 and Wiggington Rd. They plan to burn 1600 acres & starting at 11 a.m.
